Picked this up today at the Meteron for $20 and it works nicely. Video is pretty good, not as good as a DVD but not bad. Games work well but are limited to the PSP’s native resolution so they will be smaller if you have an HD TV. Also there seems to be a slight delay in controls as shown on the TV as playing Hot Shots Golf everytime I teed off, it seems to be a little late. So for the price, I’m satisfied.
This is a great accesory to buy. I joke with my 3 year old that it a magic cable. The quality of movies is very good on my 55inch plasma eventhough the size is only around 300mb per hour. The game feature is the real reason for buying this. Yes it only takes up half the screen but it my tv is is big enough. If you have a small tv it probably will not be so good for games.
You may be looking at the component cable and wonder which should I get?
Component: Offers the ability to play games on a progressive scan TV (480p, ect.), music, photos, and videos. Overall “better” quality.
D-Terminal: Offers the ability to play music, photos, and videos. Overall “better” quality. Rarely used in the USA. (Do not confuse with VGA ports.)(Not sold in the United states.)
S-Video: Offers the ability to play music, photos, and videos. Overall “good” quality. (Not sold in the Unite States.)
Composite: Offers the ability to play music, photos, and videos. Overall “okay” quality.
On another note, the PSP’s native resolution is 480×272, and when you place that on a 720×480 or higher resolution TV, it will never look as sharp. These cables are nice for taking a PSP to someone’s house and showing them videos or photos on their TV, or your TV. The ability to play games is good, although sitting far away playing on a large TV will not work well.
The cables are nice if you are watching movies and have a TV to connect your PSP to. They only work on the games if you have a progressive scan TV, but you can watch movies and listen to your music that you’ve got saved on your PSP. I don’t use them that much, but when I do it’s really nice.
I originally bought an aftermarket cable, and it turned out to be junk. It was worth a few dollars more to go ahead and buy the Sony brand in this case.
This cable works excellently. I’ve hooked it up to a 58″ Samsung plasma, a 32″ LG LCD, and a 32″ Samsung tube television, all with no problems.
You should be aware of a few things, though:
1) Your games are designed for the little PSP screen–when you blow them up to a big size, you’re going to see blocky pixellations, on some games worse than others. It’s just like digital photography: enlarging an image drops its quality. I enjoy Daxter, but the EA Classics Collection is just awful.
2) Depending on what you’re running–and your TV’s settings–the picture may not fit perfectly. For example, my HDTV’s resolution goes higher than the PSP is capable of putting out. So the picture size is slightly reduced and I have a thick black border around it representing the extra resolution of my TV. My TV has the option to stretch a picture to fit, and a tap of the “Picture Size” button does so quite nicely…yours might not. Check your TV’s manual.
3) Tube televisions simply won’t look as good as a flat-panel: they lack the color depth, for example.
4) This is a COMPONENT cable. That means you have 3 video plugs and 2 audio plugs. Red, Green, and Blue are separated into their COMPONENT plugs, one for each color. A COMPOSITE cable is 1 video plug: all 3 colors in one plug. Check the back of your TV if you’re not certain of which input you can use.
The only con to this cable is that if your PSP is inside a protective case, you’ll need to take some extra care to plug it in.
The video output was great! I downloaded the movie Men In Black, watched it, and it looked very nice. As for games, I think they look worse on a bigger screen. The games look better on the psp’s screen. But I got the cord for watching the movies on my psp 3000 on my TV, and it works great. The cord itself is just a tad on the short side for my taste, but not too bad. If you want to watch movies that are on your psp on your TV, then this is the cable for you. (Note: this cable is for HD TVs)
Once you use this on your TV, you’ll never want to play your PSP without it!
Playing games like “Prinny: Can I really be the hero?” on a bigger TV makes the game so much more enjoyable. I also loved it on strategy games like Jeanne D’Arc. Works for any game.
I highly recommend it, just make sure your TV has the slots for component before you buy it!
Worked flawlessly. I am using it on an ASUS 25.5″ lcd (it has component built in) and it works amazingly. Movies look great and the XMB is fully responsive in full screen. There is no delay for me. Playing games on a big screen isn’t as nice as you’d think though. This is a problem with the limitations of the PSP hardware and not the cable though. The games appear in a only 480p I believe. This means if you are viewing them on an HD tv/monitor, it blows them up and distorts the quality.
I have only played Monster Hunter Unite on it, and it still looks good considering it is blow up over twice its size. I much rather play on a lower quality picture that is much much larger. It is hard for me to play without it on that screen with my surround sound now lol
I purchased this item in the hopes to play my games on my TV when I’m not at home. I tend to travel from my home to my grandmothers home a lot during the year to help take care of her when my aunt and uncle need to leave for what they do for a living. I used to drag my PS2 along with me but that got annoying after awhile, having to disconnect my PS2 from my TV and grab all the cables and pack them up which by the way I don’t really have the proper travel case for it so its a hassle to be sure its packed in a way where it wont get ruined. Then naturally when I get home have to reconnect it all again and I had my cables set up in such a way its just an overall hassle. I already have a PSP, I bought it for this reason but I got so fed up with looking at the tiny screen on the PSP I wanted something to connect to the TV. That’s why I bought this item, after a lot of researching I finally decided to go ahead and get it along with a relatively decent game for me to play when I’m not at home. I’ve so far tried this on my TV at home and it works great. I wish the game screen wasn’t smaller then the TV compared to if you watched a video but its better then the tiny screen on the PSP itself. Overall I’m satisfied with this product and I’m glad I bought it.
I have a PSP 3000 and This cable is awsome!! you get the most out of it from a umd movie. the games aren’t played at a full screen but the picture is crisp! So if you have tons of UMD movies, this is the way to go!
