First of all, if you are a fan of Batman AND Lego, you’ll love this game. If you are just a Batman fan, who loves the comics and the seriousness within them, you’ll hate this game. I’ve played both Star Wars games, and this one is even better. There are lots and lots of puzzles, jokes and a beautiful animation. You’ll be exploring 3 worlds, back and forth, good and evil sides and two bonus levels. You’ll have to pick studs, pieces, red bricks, minikits, vehicles…etc. You’ll need to find EVERY single secret in the game, which is delighting since every time you finish a chapter they’ll tell you how much of the game you’ve cleared… which at first glance will be miserable, but progressively it will rise. There are cons to the game, though. First of all, a 2nd player is quite necesary but not obligatory (I won the entire game by myself) since this CPU is totally idiotic. Second, you may crash the game if you are not careful (like the Penguin’s laser level). Finally, the fact that you may have to replay some levels time and time again, you may become tired of the game and just throw it somewhere. Anyway, in the long run, you’ll clear it. I hope this helped and, if you have the time, rent or buy the game… it is worth it.

I’ve been a fan of the Lego video game series since its inception in Lego Star Wars on the PS2. I hated the Star Wars prequels, but a couple of good games came out of them. Then Lego Star Wars came along and actually made the story-lines in the prequels fun and engaging, which is something that the movies themselves were unable to accomplish.
Lego Batman expands on the same basic concept from the original Lego Star Wars, with solid platforming and light combat mixed with puzzle solving. The co-op mode is drop in, drop out, at any moment, making this a great game for playing with friends. The unlimited lives means that a bad player constantly dying won’t hamper progress, although it can be frustrating when you are trying to unlock content by doing well in the levels.
The big innovation in Lego Batman is the addition of a parallel storyline, with you playing the villains in their own quest to overthrow law and order in Gotham city. The super-villains each have unique abilities that mix up the gameplay nicely. That’s not to say that the heroes don’t have a variety powers themselves. Batman, Robin and their various cohorts have a selection of specialty suits that would make the DC Direct action figure designers proud. The story-lines for both the heroes and villains are unique narratives, which gives the game a freedom that was not present in the previous, movie-based Lego Games.
Graphically the game is on par with other Wii games, looking clean and colorful. Some of the levels are a bit dark, making it hard to pickup the dark suited Batman from his environs. Thankfully, this is only a problem on rare occasions. The sound is excellent, especially the brilliant use of Danny Elfman’s score from Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman film. The music ties everything into a familiar Batman framework even when it gets rather silly. The music loops a bit too often considering how long you can stay in one area collecting items and looking for secrets, but it never gets annoying.
The Wii controls are excellent, which I have found to be a common case for more traditional games on the Wii. The mix of nunchuck and remote works amazingly, although the motion controls are neglected in favor of tight implementation of classic analog controls.
With all its un-lockables, the easy to pick up and varied levels, and the huge number of different characters to play, Lego Batman brings together all the elements that have made the previous Lego games while jettisoning the baggage of being bound to a movie storyline. Perhaps the best Lego game yet!

My kids love this game and play it constantly. There is so much to do and you never get bored with the same old thing like in half the games I own. I would recommend this game to anyone with little kids or older kids alike. It really engages my son to problem solve, which he had a hard time doing before. Great game highly recommended!

Oh, my gosh!! I bought a Wii system for our family for Christmas and my daughter and I are still waiting to try it out!! My husband and son are holding it hostage. Chief among the hostages is – you guessed it – Lego Batman. We got the system up and running 3 days after Christmas and my nearly 6 year old son and ??? husband didn’t stop playing it except to sleep (under threat of serious injury from wife and mom) for another 3 days. They absolutely love the game. All I can say is if you want to see your children and your spouse, you better skip this one. The games are great, the graphics fantastic, and the story line must be something else too. Buy it and you won’t be sorry – except for course if you were hoping to play it yourself.

Fantastic game play, challenging yet playable.
My 7 year old son who completed Star Wars Complete Saga on his own, will not stop playing it and has not touched any of his other games since he started!
My wife and I love it as well.

This game mixes puzzles and action. You can’t go ahead just by bashing all the bricks and enemies, you must also solve puzzles which usually means using the unique abilities of each character in machines, levers and so on.
After you finish the level, you unlock the free play, when you can go back with a ensemble of characters (villains and heroes) to search for red bricks (which unlock upgrades for batman’s suits) and lego kits (former bacta tanks in lego starwars and treasure chests in Indiana Jones), which otherwise would not be reachable.
The game includes 15 levels as the good guys and 15 levels as villains. As an owner of the other lego games let me briefly compare Batman to them:
- Compared to Lego StarWars, it is easier to collect all the lego kits and find the red bricks once you are in the free play, but the story mode is harder, you have to be more skilled in battle. You get much more action than the Star Wars one, and less stud retrieving (that even bored me a little in the SW one). You also have more breakable furniture and items than the SW offered.
- Compared to Indiana Jones, this game is pretty much even in the difficulty of the battles, but finding the red bricks and the lego kits is easier.
Pros:
- lots of action;
- pretty much everything is breakable into studs, which I find fun to do after a frustrating day;
- the great sense of humor unique to the Lego series; (some might disagree, but I like it)
- No game over screens, if you die you show up again, just looses studs, although the hardcore gamer might not like it, casual games like me do; (ok ok I’m a FPS hardcore gamer in the PC, but not on the Wii)
Cons:
- in the 2 players mode, the camera needs to find a compromise between focusing on player one or two, which most of the times lead to being bad for both.
I don’t know how this problem can be fixed and it doesn’t bother me that much, therefore I didn’t deduct any stars.

My wife and I (both 30+) are always on the look-out for fun co-op games we can play together on the Wii. After shooting up the opposite end of the spectrum with ultra-violence (House of the Dead: Overkill) we really dug the innocent, silly fun of “LEGO Batman.”
This was my first go at a LEGO game. I haven’t played either Lego Star Wars or Lego Indiana Jones, but I will definitely be checking them out. This game was just so much fun! Great graphics, great game play, great sense of humor. It was challenging enough that it took us awhile to get used to the controllers, and master the combat system (gotta work that batarang), but not so difficult that it was frustrating. We went to the Internet a few times when we were stuck, but for the most part we just whipped right through. Three hours can go by without even noticing, because you get so involved in the game.
The “LEGO Batman” isn’t exactly classic Batman, although many of the same characters are involved. Robin is a scrappy little punk, and the Joker is a wacky prankster rather than a deadly killer. Clayface, The Penguin, The Mad Hatter, Scarecrow, Killer Croc, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, The Riddler, Mr. Freeze and Two Face make up the rest of the villain contingent. The heroes are Batman and Robin, of course, but some others like Nightwing, Batgirl and Commissioner Gordon are available as unlockable characters.
Game play involves three main missions, against The Riddler, The Penguin and the Joker. Each main mission has about four sub-missions each captained by a different villain. After you play through them in “story mode,” you unlock the “free play” mode. In “free play,” you can head back to the same scenario but this time with extra powered-up suits and characters that weren’t available in the first run. There are a lot of secret items to collect, and if you are a completest you will have a great time picking up all the hidden pieces.
The Wii remote use is pretty basic. You will need the nunchuk to maneuver the characters, and you mostly use the A and B buttons on the remote. There isn’t a lot of remote swinging, which is fine considering how fun the game is. The co-op mode is lots of fun, much more fun than single play. In fact, there are a few scenes where you need co-op mode to advance. Robin needs to push a button while Batman goes through a door and things like that. If you don’t have a buddy to play with (or a wife…) that could be a bummer.

We just bought our Wii system as our family Christmas present. We have not had a game system before of our own so we have been learning the ins and outs. Our 5-year old son had to have this game. It is a great kid’s game. He has played often with my husband or myself and now he even plays by himself. We did cheat a little though…we were frustrated with a level so I googled it on the computer and ended up finding a complete walkthrough for the game for both Hero and Villain levels for story and free-play. I realize they intentionally make the instructions that come with the game vague to make it more challenging but when you are just starting out it makes it worse than challenging…it makes it throw it out the window frustrating! For instance, it would have been nice to know/understand you just can’t get everything in story mode, getting super hero level in story is easier than in free play mode and a must do, you need those villains in free play mode to get to all the canisters, etc. We also used a few cheats and again, that gave us a jump start. Now that we are getting it down, we are over 70% complete, we try not to use the walkthrough unless all three of us are just completely stumped! Our next game will be Indianna Jones and we are going to try not to cheat at all on that one! Ha Ha! But I’ll tell you what, the walkthrough may not be the purist way, but it is sure helping us to relax and have fun with it. I am amazed at how much our son has picked up now that he is not so frustrated, he works hard to work it out on his own, loves playing with his dad or I, if we are stumped, we put all our heads together and then as a last resort we can read the walkthrough and laugh at ourselves. But then we remember the next time…for example, when any body of water is sparkling – freeze it! If you are frustrated with this game…google for a walkthrough and download it. Save your sanity and have some fun! Great for parents who weren’t gamers in a previous life…it’s fun for us too!
