I bought this so adapter cable I could send digital audio to my surround sound system via light pipe (tos link) from my Xbox. Works as expected. No problems using it while at the same time sending video from the Xbox to my television via hdmi.

This component saved me having to buy a $50 hdmi-audio adapter pack. Works just fine, shipped very promptly and arrived in no time. Well worth the small price.

If you plan on using a headset such as turtle beaches and want to use digital audio you will want to buy this adapter. I would recommend going to game stop near you and asking before buying online, i just picked one up today for $1.99. Way cheaper than they are online. With this adapter you can still plug in hdmi for hd video.

The product works fine, but it wasn’t made clear in the ad that it’s not a microsoft product.

Once I hooked up my Xbox 360 to my TV with a HDMI cable I noticed that my stero wouldn’t play the audio from the Xbox 360. On;y my TV would, but once I hooked this up everything was just great.

I just got the X41′s and didn’t want to hook up the optical to the back of my TV, so I picked up this adaptor at the same time. There is not really much to it, but it works just fine.

I actually use this in conjunction with a pair of Turtle Beach X4′s. I am fortunate to own an Onkyo 7.1 Surround Sound system (can be found for a great price if you dig a little online) however there are certain times, usually at night when she is asleep on the couch, that my wife just prefers I use headphones will gaming. So since my Onkyo receiver is capable of doing both HDMI Audio and Video, I use the optical connection on this adapter to go straight into the Turtle Beach receiver. So for that purpose, it works like a champ.
It will of course also work if you have a receiver that only does HDMI video but not audio as well.
The only thing I will say is when I purchased this a few months ago, I recall paying no more than $15 for it, and that included shipping, so buyer beware, it appears that some people are taking advantage of the fact that this is a somewhat hard to find item. However shop around if need be, as a $34 asking price is just absolutely uncalled for.
I’ve also recommended this to two people who had various different home theater setups that required the optical audio connection but they used HDMI for the video, and they both had no issues with this adapter and it worked flawlessly for them.

Hear ye, hear ye!
A goodly length in times past, a hindrance hath Microsoft bestowed upon my bretheren. I bid mine self, “for why must my brethern have emancipation extirpated from wence their HDMI ports lay?”
By my troth, the day of bulky Microsoft connections hath met their reckoning! Rejoice, as there exsists a contraption even more ingeneous than the catapult! For our scientists and scholars hath consulted with the Heavens thus bearing us the RCA Audio Cable Adaptor for Microsoft xBox 360. As once saith the great Sir William Wallace…

I needed this little adapter for the optical out. Now I can get digital 5.1 and still use my hdmi for video output. There are two minor annoyances, but not enough for me to knock off a star. I had to jiggle my optical cord from the output side of the adapter because it wasn’t producing any sound. It only took a second to fix and it stays in place so its not an issue. The second annoyance is that the adapter head connecting to the xbox side MIGHT still be big enough to be pushing up against some hdmi cords. It still works as it should with both hdmi and adapter pushing against each other, but some people may be annoyed that there isn’t any space between them. I have 2 hdmi heads of different sizes, so I just plugged in the smaller one. So now I have some space between the two connectors when plugged in. I also haven’t tried the analog left/right connections, so I can’t comment on that.
It works so I’m happy with this purchase!
