The G5 is a durable, well designed mouse. I have been using it for over a year now with no problems. It’s very comfortable in the hand and the ability to add or subract weight from it (by adding little weights that fit inside on the bottom) makes it perfect for the gamer. By adding or subtracting weight you can get the feel and the flow that you are looking for. Once you find that “sweet spot” weight, you will really get spoiled by this mouse.
It’s not cordless, but for me that’s a positive thing. I hate having to constantly add new batteries or sit my mouse on its charger. I can sit down and start using it with no problems. The mouse chord is plenty long and it’s not real rigid like a lot of older mouse chords. So your movements are not hampered by the chord.
All in all it’s the best mouse I’ve ever used… and I’ve been using them ever since they’ve existed.
This mouse feels great in your hand and the weights add an extra measure of balance. While this mouse is specifically made for gaming, it is an enhancement against the basic laser mouse even within Windows applications due to its enhanced movement precision.
This mouse is great. I bought it after having major tracking issues on my MX Revolution (another laser mouse from logitech). I can safely say this mouse has no such problems. I tried it out on my Razer eXactMat (which would cause the revolution to cut out every 10 seconds) and it was nice and smooth. I would also like to note I’ve noticed none of the problems other people have had on the 1 side-button version of the G5. The scroll wheel might be a little weak, but I’m not having any problems with it missing any of it’s clicks.
Pros: Smooth response, 2 side buttons work well, changing the DPI on the fly is a very nice feature, adjustable weights work well but don’t really do anything for me
Cons: Wheel might be a little on the weak side and pressing down to use it as a button might cause you to spin it, not quite as nice to hold as the Revolution (very similar to mice like the mx 500, 513, and 700 in this respect)
The drivers for this mouse don’t really do anything I need (like let you change what each button does) so I haven’t installed them, although I did use them for a while with the Revolution and they worked fine. Overall I recommend this mouse to anybody with $50 to spend on a mouse.
I always stood beside Logitech and this is my best purchase to date. Being an extreme gamer i needed an extreme mouse…but little did i know i was getting a lion. The large feet make gliding slick and effortless as if it knew where i wanted to go. The switching between sensitivity on-the-fly is so kool especially when i am switching between resolutions from one application or game to another. i do some photo-editing too and this ‘lion’ makes me seem like a surgeon. i had to fiddle with the weights at first though, just to get the balance i thought was right for me (i like it a bit on the heavy side). The ‘lion’ wheel was not as clicky as my former mouse (don’t even know what it was) but i quickly adjusted. Side-scrolling…WOW! Unfortunately not all instances where i see the opportunity to side-scroll was i able to side-scroll…fault of the application i believe. During games like FARCRY i use the side-scroll to reload my weapon and switch from rapid fire to single. Did i mention it has forward and backward scroll that works so well when running through Windows Explorer or IE. My last mouse which was optical has an underglow that i could see from the other room and it was not necessary and a little distracting when i am watching a DVD or something like that. This ‘lion’ has no underglow but it moves with stealth and has killer looks. Buy one! You will like the ROAR.
I bought this mouse because I’ve been using a basic laser mouse for ages now, and it began going to crap. I play World of Warcraft, and I began getting sick and tired of the mouse spinning arbitrarily around the screen when I was trying to navigate, often running me off a cliff or into some other sticky situation.
Since I bought the G5 Laser Mouse, my gaming experience has improved tenfold. Aside from the precision control and on-the-fly speed control capabilities (which I know would be put to better use in a First Person Shooter, but have come in handy on WoW as well), I’ve made great use of all the different buttons as well. By mapping this mouse’s unique mouse wheel L/R tilting function to the “Q” and “E” (L/R strafe) buttons, I’ve made it possible to maneuver my character solely with the mouse, freeing up my left hand whenever necessary. In fact, using just the mouse, I can mount up, autorun, strafe, turn, change the camera angle, and even jump, without ever having to leave my spellcasting home keys with my left hand.
This mouse is extremely versatile, and never failing in its task! It’s also incredible for use with Photoshop and makes digital drawing much, much easier.
If you’re a gamer that is still using the mouse your computer came with, click that “add to cart” button right now. This is a must-have for gamers especially, but even if you just do photoshop, or 3d design, or play free webgames on a regular basis… this is your mouse. If I had enough hands, I’d give it no less than four thumbs way up! =D
I had gotten my wife a replacement mouse, an expensive MS one, and she thought it was too light and cheap feeling. So I looked at all the mice available and decided to try this one because of the weights. She loves it!!! It has a great feel, she could set the responsiveness just how she likes it, and we weighted up to where she thought it felt just right.
Note that she is not a game player (except solitaire), really just surfing the web and doing email/word/excel. I ended up with the expensive MS mouse and it does feel cheap and is too light . . . oh well, maybe I can get one of the Logitech G5′s for Xmas.
Awesome for FPS games. Fast and accurate. Solid feeling, especially w/ the weights. Nice to adjust DPI on the fly too. Need to snipe? Turn it down. Spray some clone soldiers? All up. Eight programmable buttons means you can shoot, use a med, and throw a nade within milliseconds of each other. Slick feet as well. I use an aluminum mouse pad and the mouse just glides over it. You really can’t go wrong with this one.
That’s pretty much the only drawback. If you have to use lots of different systems, having this at home will make you hate every other mouse by contrast. They will all feel like cheap garbage.
I’m pretty much a gamer n00b, and have been enjoying getting my butt severely kicked lately in Gears of War. So I’m complaining to a friend of mine about my woes, and he asks about my setup. “Whoa, dude,” he says. “You can’t us a wireless mouse and keyboard for gaming. Spend some money and get a really good mouse. Friggin n00b.”
Turns out my friend isn’t as dumb as he looks.
So I bought the G5 (after deliberating over the DeathAdder) because of the 2000dpi. Wow. Just…wow. Now, keep in mind that my point of comparison is a Logitech MX600 wireless. It’s a great general purpose mouse, but the G5 feels like a miracle of modern technology by comparison. I’ve always found Logitech mice to be the most comfortable fit for my hand, and the G5 is no exception. I’m also completly shocked my how much comfort is added by being able to alter the weight. Honestly, I thought it was a worthless gimmick. But it works. As far as operation, just moving around in Vista felt incredibly smooth. The pointer tracks to perfection. No delays, skips, or jerks. Then, onto the game…the difference is unbelievable. I just can’t describe how much of a difference this made. I hopped on GoW for a little multiplayer action, and I didn’t get my butt handed to me nearly as bad as I usually do. I think I only got frag tagged about 100 times, compared to the usual 1,231,578 times. So I’m still awful, only less so.
I’ve still got a ways to go to get the feel for this mouse down, as I don’t yet have the skills mastered to take full advantage of all the features. It’s sort of like going from a Focus to a Ferrari.
I am a repetitive strain sufferer who works at at the computer 10+ hours a day. I’ve tried a ton of mice now, both optical and laser, and even tried using a Wacom Tablet for a while. This has been the one that has helped the most with pain. The profile of the mouse is low which helps to maintain a more natural hand posture. Even though the customizable weight cartridge is meant for gamers, it also works great for RSI since one can play around with the weights until they feel most comfortable. And the precision tracking means less effort trying to move the mouse to the target. Highly recommended.
