PS2 joysticks or controllers may experience some lag in control, tried out my PS2 joysticks and joypads.thats the flaw.but as for FPS mode it works perfect with keyboard and mouse.A very rock solid product at great value.Wanna buy XCM??? Think TWICE cos this product is more worth IT!

This device is pricey for an adapter. The price of the XCM XFPS Sniper is just plain LUDICROUS!!!

The expense goes further with the requirement of a WIRED Controller. Make sure its an Official Microsoft Wired Controller too. Third party Ones may not be reliable.

*****BTW… A Wireless Controller hooked up with a USB Charge & Play Kit WILL NOT WORK (I Tried IT). The adapter needs to be digitally signed through a USB connection. The Wireless Controller will only draw power from the USB C&P Kit but will still connect wirelessly.*****

After you have gotten your max Shooter and your wired controller you are ready. the instructions are really simple and you can have a config on your keyboard how you like it in minutes. The PS2 controller connection works beautifully. The keyboard works flawlessly whether USB or PS/2 connected.

The mouse is the issue. There is no automatic magical conversion.

Getting your mouse to work requires striking a balance between the type of first person shooter you are playing, the axis sensitivities within the game and the sensitivities in the adapter itself. Your Best Bet may be too place the sensitivities in the game you are playing to as much as possible for both the X&Y axis and then fiddle with the max shooter wheels for the best arrangement. This trial and error procedure must be done for every game you play. What works great and feels PC-like for F.E.A.R. 2 will be a complete disaster when u play Halo 3. Even worse if you still play the Orange Box as I do.

Over the shoulder games like Grand theft Auto 4 or Resident Evil 5 are too problematic sometimes in my experience. If the run command is on the keyboard. Running and turning cant be done because the input simplynever registers, its either one or the other.

I have noticed it in RE5 mostly.

The good thing is, if you have the controller still plugged in you can always pick it up and play some portions with the controller and get back to the mouse and keyboard for the shooting parts like in GTA4.

***** The Max Shooter supports all connections simultaneously. So a keyboard and mouse and a Playstation 2 Controller and a Joystick can all be connected at once and all can be used to provide input. The max Shooter can only support one player at a time. It CANNOT function like a MultiTap. So if you want to be playing 2 player fighting games with 2 PS2 controllers you will Need TWO MAX SHOOTER ADAPTERS. also known as money.*****

At the end of it all, getting the mouse to work really well is tricky at first but very doable.

I haven’t tested steering wheels for racing or joysticks for ace combat and such but when I do those reviews will come.

There is no headset support on the adapter so you will have to keep the wired controller in the Max Shooter to have that feature when you are fragging online with your keyboard and mouse.

The Max Shooter saves your button layouts so you can turn off or unplug it without having to reconfigure each time. Only the mouse settings MAY need changing when u play a different game.

All in all its a great adapter. Allows PC gamers on a budget to still play high def shooters without shelling out tons on PC hardware. The need for a wired controller may seem like a lot but you wont have to worry about battery life and its a more comfortable controller by lacking the battery pack bulge in the back.

SO THE MAX SHOOTER for XBOX 360 IS DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED… even thought its black when all else is white (except Elites of course) and costs a fair amount of money.

I bought this after trying to play COD4 (First Person Shooter) for xbox 360 and getting beaten constantly. I originally played all FPS games on PC and was used to the good old keyboard and mouse setup. Aiming with the 360 controller seemed way too awkward. Well the Maxx shooter seemed to be the answer to my prayers, guess what, it’s wasn’t. First off, I had to buy a wired xbox controller to make it work, that’s an extra $40 down the drain. Second, it only has 2 USB ports. One for the xbox controller leaving only one for your mouse/keyboard. Ended up having to get a PS2 keyboard instead. After all this the unit worked as advertised less one important thing. You can’t aim to save you life. The conversion of mouse movements to xbox controller motions is complete crap. The cursor jumps all over the place, and the tracking is horrible. After trying on 3 separate occassions to get the settings just right, including using the in game sensitivity settings, using different mice, I gave up. If your thinking of buying this for the same reasons as me, don’t! If you have issues aiming via xbox controller, I have some advice. Practice, Practice, Practice, I’m now just as good with the xbox controller as I ever was with a mouse. You just have to put in the time to learn. Also, there is an inexpensive xbox controller add on out there that will help with your aim. Not sure I should mention it here but the name starts with “FPS” and and ends with “Freeks”. Do a search.

This adaptor is good to buy, but it has a few disadvantages.

    Negatives:

Your PS2 controller will NOT vibrate when you attach it to this adaptor. I was very disappointed especially since I have a PS2 EdgeFX. I love the EdgeFX on my PS2 console, playing the shooter Black. The mouse part has a motor and I love the way it vibrates when I shoot. To my disappointment, it does not vibrate with this adaptor.

Also, the PS2 EdgeFX is not accurate reading my mouse movement when attached to the 360. It does work perfectly on my PS2, but when I attached to my 360 to play Gears of War it was very unresponsive. Sometimes I moved the mouse, and the character did not react.

You have to have a regular wired 360 controller. As another reviewer pointed out, a wireless controller with a charge cable attached will not work. I have a wireless 360 elite and a charge cable, but I had to spend an extra $40 on a regular wired controller!!!

    Positive:

Not considering the EdgeFX mouse, the regular PS2 controller does work PERFECTLY on your 360. I am a fan of Virtual Fighter, and Dead or Alive and the PS2 controller works great with those fighting games. The Dpad for the 360 sucks, so using the PS2 Dpad is a big advantage.

I have not tested a regular PC keyboard and mouse as of yet. Only because I have realized that I really love having force feedback in games like Gears of War. I sucked at the game during my first play through, but I really became a lot better during my second play through. I recommend that if you are like me and you love having force feedback in your 360 games, try practicing more to improve your aiming skill. Practice, practice, practice!

I am willing to give up force feedback in my fighting games, but I must have it in my shooters.

I purchased this coming from PC backgrounds and aiming in FPS games was awkward with the little joystick so I set out looking for a way to use a keyboard and mouse for my Xbox 360 and thought this was it. Well, it wasn’t. In fact, it wasn’t even close. I was severely disappointed when I tried playing CoDMW with it and NOTHING RESPONDED CORRECTLY. I did everything that the instructions said to do and yet all the controls were constantly getting scrambled. I couldn’t do anything because the adapter was interpreting it wrong. For example when I tried to aim, it started shooting. When i tried to move, the buttons no longer responded but it turned the night vision on and started reloading instead. Basically this is a horrible waste of money and is completely useless so please take my advice and dont purchase this.

The metal DDR dance pad is not compatible with the Xbox 360. But if you buy this device and the PS2 version of the dance pad it works great.

It sucks that you have to use a wired game controller to get it to work but, this helps to get around the “non-MS” certified devices that MS kicks out with each update.

FYI, keep in mind that some A/V receivers have a 5ms delay between the video and audio.

Bought this thing when I busted my thumbs using the controller for three days straight. Sometimes some buttons won’t react and sometimes it would disconnect, so not too reliable. Might want to save often when playing RPG. Definitely not recommended fro FPS, there is a lag. Somehow the mouse does not translate smoothly over to the console so have to adjust for lag in aiming speed. Better off with controller.

This item ain’t worth a coin, if not for the keyboard.

Even after poking with mouse sensitivity for hours, both on the hardware and the game, the precision of movements was still not even remotely comparable to that of the pc.

    Waste of money.

If you’re a PC gamer looking to play some FPS (or RTS) on the 360, the Max Shooter is a must. It’s not perfect; you will need to tweak the mouse sensitivity controls for each game you play, but it generally only takes a few seconds and then you’re good to go. The keyboard works straight-out unless you need to reconfigure the keys, which you shouldn’t really have to because they’re laid out in a standard PC configuration by default.

Caveats: Requires a bit of tweaking, but again no big deal. A little jittery compared to a PC, but still infinitely better than trying to aim with the stick. A bit pricey, but again it’s worth it to not have to use the stick (though ~$25 would be a more reasonable price). You will need an additional wired controller, ps/2 keyboard & mouse (so you’ll have a USB port free), but I needed a second controller anyway and had the keyboard and mouse lying around, and they can be bought cheaply anyway.

PC perfect? No. Better than a n00bstick? YES. If you’re used to FPSing on a PC but still want to use the 360 for some games (to not have to install a game that you only want to play for a short time, for example), the Max Shooter is worth it.

I would suggest not spending any money on this system. If you play XBOX 360 games on the computer, then all you need is a program called x-modder. It is a free program to download and allows you to set any button on your joystick to any key on the keyboard. It also allows you to set the sensitivity on all keys as well.
