Ill keep this short and to the point, Think Fallout 3 meets Halo 3 with the controls of COD4. Super fun. Love playing this game.

Borderlands is a perfect hybrid of Halo and Diablo. The shooting feels satisfying, the loot drops are spaced out perfectly, the world is gorgeous, and 4 player co-op works great. It’s the type of game that keeps you saying to yourself “just one more quest” until it’s turned into the wee hours of the morning. Good times!

Its like entering a new dimension of gaming. Borderlands has incredible game play and fun factor. I only played for 6 hours and I am hooked on using all those guns (always thinking what will this baby do…), fun missions. No doubt will be nominated for top game of the year along with upcoming Call of Duty and Assassins Creed Titles.

Definitely one of my favorite games of the year. Very fun and very addictive. I completed my first playthrough in about 32 hours and I fully intend to start the second playthrough right away. I can’t think of much to say that you don’t already know — millions of guns, lots of exploding heads, great style and character to this game. I giggled like an idiot the whole time. Highly recommended!

The first time I heard of this game was when my friend told me about it in June. I then looked at some of the footage and thought that the game would be mediocre. Well I happily stand corrected. This game is the most fun I have had in a long time. Its unique combination of WOW like looting and COD shooting makes it a highly addictive. But, the game really shines when you have three other friends playing with you. It is really fun just to have a group of for people to do the whole game together. I strongly recommend this game to people who would want to put 100′s of hours into a great game and to people who just love to loot.

So I got my copy of Borderlands last night and played up to level 11. Here are my impressions one day in.
-The game is beautiful. I personally love the cartoony style of the graphics. Extremely detailed and even the barren wasteland is nice to look at. The characters while not customizable are all highly detailed as well and look great. You can change the name and colors, that’s about it.
-Controls are excellent. Feels like COD4 with a few changes. Any FPS player can pick it up and play very easily. The one vehicle I’ve seen so far controls exactly like a warthog from halo.
-Guns, guns, guns. Only a few hours in and I’ve seen so many kinds of guns I can’t count them. One of the best parts of the game is that you’ll never know what will drop out of the next enemy. Could be that acid rocket shotgun you’ve been waiting for! The pure crazines of the weapons is awesome.
-Story. What story? Your looking for a vault full of alien technology. That’s it so far. If your looking for deep story, this is not the game for you. Try Fallout 3. On that note, this game is nothing like Fallout. Other than the fact that both games are set in a wasteland like place in the future there is no comparison. It’s more like COD4/Halo meets Diablo/Baldurs Gate.
-Co-op. Tried the co-op last night and it was the best online experiance I’ve ever had. I sent my friend an invite and he joined my game with his levleed up character. No lobby, no re-loading, he just appeared in my game, we played for a few hours and when he left I was back to single player. All seamless. Amazing. Can’t wait to try it with four players.
-In the couple of hours I played it I was glued to the XBOX360. If I didn’t have to work today I would have played all night. Now that’s a sign of a good game. Well spent 60.00. I’m sure I’ll more than get my monies worth on this one for a long time to come. With four characters that you’ll not likely max out on the first play through this game has some legs to stand on. Enjoy.

I’m reviewing this game because I keep hearing it compared to Fallout 3. First off, this is one of the most fun games I’ve played this year. The only comparison to Fallout is that they both take place in a wasteland type environment — similarities stop there. This feels and plays like a shooter, with a few added skills. The shooter mechanics are fun and the coop is amazing. Fallout 3 always felt like a turn based rpg with a shooter skin over it. If you enjoyed Diablo 2 style looting and like shooters this is the game for you. Its fun as a single player and great as coop with a friend.

I love this game, especially the multiplayer. One thing though, this is NOT like Fallout 3; so if that’s what you’re expecting, prepare to be disappointed. It has a similar wastland setting, but that’s where the similarity ends. This is a shooter with an RPG twist, not vice versa.
Now that we have that cleared up, the game is awesome. It doesn’t have a good story, but it doesn’t really need one with the frantic multiplayer (ala Left 4 Dead). I do have to admit the single player gets monotonous, but I usually play with my buddies anyway. While there may not be the reported 87 bazillion guns, there definitely are a lot. You might get the same gun, but it will have different stats. It feels like Christmas when you find a better one. Oooooh! Gimme, gimme!
I really don’t feel like writing a long review so I’m just going to list the pros and cons.
Pros:
Awesome multiplayer with the ability to pop in and out of games at any time
The shooter action is great, good controls and button usage
The vehicles suck, but it is very fun just running over groups of enemies
Tons of weapons, you very rarely come across two that are the same (gotta love a shotgun that shoots as fast as a machine gun!)
The skill tree adds some flair to gameplay
You can customize your grenades to do different things (electricity, bouncy, etc)
Personally I like the comic book look of the game, some people won’t
Opening a weapon chest is always exciting!
Great voice acting; I always laugh when Roland says “critical b****”
Cons:
Some minor issues with AI
Enemy respawning can be annoying at times
Story is weak, especially in single player (when you’re actually paying attention)
Other:
Some people didn’t like that characters only have one action skill, but I think it keeps it simple and keeps your focus on what’s important: GUNS!!!

Throughout it’s development, Borderlands developer Gearbox described the game as a first-person shooter with 87 bazillion procedurally-generated guns crossed with an action RPG like Diablo. They even claim to have created a new hyrbid game genre called a “role-playing shooter.” That is exactly what this game is, and Gearbox delivered on all of their promises. This game combines solid, responsive FPS gameplay and controls with action-RPG elements such as 4 different character classes with their own unique gameplay style and customizable skill trees. The variety of guns, shields, grenade modifiers, and class modifiers you can find as loot drops is staggering. The story and quests are fairly routine, but that is not really what this game is about. It’s about finding and shooting a lot of cool guns while building and customizing a character of ever-increasing power. If you love first-person shooters and Diablo-style action RPGs, this may be the last game you ever need to buy.
