This is the best way to experience Fallout 3. The game originally sold (retail) for $59.99 and each of the DLCs are $10…and there are 5 of them. So in total, if you buy the regular version of the game and purchase all the DLCs separately, you’re spending over $100. If you savor the game and explore all of the content, you’ll clock at least 150 hours of gameplay. The graphics, sound, and atmosphere in this game are brilliant. The only drawback is that the game is slightly glitchy, in that sometimes your game may freeze or the game character may get stuck in a rock or something to that effect. While it doesn’t diminish the 5 star ratings I gave this game, it can be a bit frustrating especially if you’ve completed a significant quest and didn’t save right after. My solution is to always keep a current save file you can revert to if you experience a rare glitch…the game creates an autosave file and while it has never happened to me, I have read how some auto-save files have become corrupt and therefore unusable. Don’t let this dissuade you from playing the game…you’ll miss out on a fantastic adventure with multiple paths and plot twists.

This is the 3rd time I’ve tried Fallout 3, and I must say, the third time’s a charm.

I didn’t like this game the first or the second time, but granted I gave it only a couple of hours each time. I last bought this game in June, but returned it when I heard about the GOTY edition a few days later.

The GOTY does come with 2 discs, Disc One is the gameplay for Fallout 3, which looks virtually unchanged, except on the actual disc itself where it says “Fallout 3 Game of the Year edition”. Besides that, there’s little to no difference. Disc 2 has all the DLC, including the last installment; Mothership Zeta.

The instruction manual is a new one for GOTY, and instructs you to install disc 2 to your hard drive, before playing if you’ve never played Fallout 3, or do not have a current save file. However I didn’t read it, and played about 3 hours of disc one before I noticed. I installed disc 2 (About 10 minutes, give or take), and everything was fine. I got the messages in-game letting me know that I have all 5 DLC’s unlocked, that my level cap was raised to 30 etc.

After playing this game a good 10 hours, and not even completing half of the storyline, I feel like an idiot for not liking this game the first or second time. I think I was completly hooked when I saw the Washington Monument. It’s just an amazing experience.

It gives you the option to choose what DLC you install. You don’t have to install all 5, you can pick just one, or two, or all 5.

    Here are the requirements.

    Broken Steel = 620 MB

    Mothership Zeta = 324 MB

    Operation Anchorage = 369MB

    Point Lookout = 413 MB

    The Pitt = 492 MB

    Total of 2.2 Gigs. (2218MB)

Go buy this now. If you haven’t bought any of the DLC, go trade in your old Fallout 3 disc, and get the GOTY edition.

I played through Fallout 3 and beat it and reached level 20 back when it first came out. It was well worth my time then. I got hours and hours of fun gameplay out of it then.

I eventually auctioned it and got half my money back but I’ll buy this version, and STILL feel like I’m getting a good deal. There’s fifty-dollars worth of DLC included in this package. If you consider that, along with another 10 bucks for the standalone game, this might very well be the best video game deal since “The Orange Box.” Compared to Oblivion, which only came with two expansions–and how about Left 4 Dead, which included the FREE DLC for their “GOTY” edition.

As for the game? It’s stellar. I enjoyed it a lot more than Oblivion. I’m not a huge RPG fan but great action RPGs like this and Mass Effect are first rate. If you haven’t played Fallout 3, you should get this copy. It’s a one-of-a-kind experience.

In 2007, I purchased Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (Game of the Year Edition) after finally jumping into this generations gaming systems. Close to 400 hours later, I decided that game was the best value for my money in terms of content, quality, and overall fun that I would ever play.

    I was wrong.

My wife purchased me Fallout 3 in 2008 as an anniversary gift; she knew I’d played the original Fallout games and really enjoyed Oblivion with me, so it was a great gift. To say that I was stunned and enraptured with Fallout 3 would be an understatement; I’ve played this game with regularity for over a year. It is a huge, expansive, detailed, life-like world with so much to do and see that each time through you can find more and more surprises that you may have missed previously. Toss in all 5 DLCs at a mere $60, and this game is pushing 150 hours of game time just for one play through.

This is an incredibly involved game and isn’t for everyone; its the kind of game that takes hold of your imagination and won’t let go, so if you have the time to play a game of this depth, I recommend purchasing it immediately, its worth every penny.

Bethseda has been putting out some really amazing games over the last couple of years. Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was an amazing game which I loved loved loved. When I heard Fallout 3 was Oblivion with guns…I knew I had to get it. It has been a very hard year not owning the game and playing it, but luckily the 360 has plenty of killer games that have kept me busy. Anyway, #1 is you can’t beat the price. My friend spent $110 to get all of the downloads +the game, and even though he had a great time, invested over 150 hours into the game, I had a hard time swallowing $110 investment. Can’t beat the GOTY price at all.

#2 the game has an amazing story. I already knew the ending of the original game (friend spoiled it and yes I was pissed), but it didn’t matter. Why? There is so much to the story that it was like the second star Wars trilogy for me. Everyone knows Anakin becomes Vader, but its how he got there that is interesting. Same thing here.

Finally, graphics are off the chain. Even a year later the game is still one of the best games out there. It’s running off a modified version of the Oblivion engine, and its just a pleasure to watch.

    Bottom line get game now!!!

one thing:::::BUY THE STRATEGY GUIDE!!! There is so much to the game, and if you don’t have it…frustration WILL set in. Go get it! I had one for Oblivion and it made a huge difference. Same goes for Fallout! Have fun!

Most video games are exactly the same as their game of the year edition counterparts (Call of duty 4 Modern Warfare for example). However Fallout 3: game of the year edition includes all of the download able content that was released for the game. The download-able content (DLC) are basically expansion packs that build upon the original game. each one includes a significant amount of gameplay. There are five included with the Game of the year edition. Normally the DLC sells for ten dollars for each installment. Mean that this game includes 50 dollars worth of downloads for the original price of the game. So definitely get this one if you’re interested in Fallout 3. Even if you can find the original game for 30 you’re still going to spend 50 on the DLC totaling to 80 dollars. so its worth it to spend 60 and have it all :) . OH and DLC comes on a second disk. and I would recommend installing this game to your hard drive as it is rich in details.

Fantastic Game! Only one thing would make it better and that would be the Level design. It would have been better not to have a Level cap of 30 (like in Oblivion) so you keep getting XP points. I have already reached 30 and I haven’t even finished the main quest or even begun the Point Lookout and Broken Steel add-ons. Aside from that this is a game all gamers should have in their collection right next to Oblivion and Mass Effect.

Having finished the game and started on my second, I have another suggestion for improvement – Vehicles. It would be great if there were some kind of transportation other than the fast-travel option. I know it wouldn’t be in keeping with the theme of limited technology in a post-apocalyptic world, but the Enclave have Vertibirds, so why not give the Brotherhood a hovercraft or better yet jet-packs, so they can fly in and out of combat! That would be great!

At first I was sort of sceptical about Fallout, and decided to pick it up because of all of the GOTY DLC. I was hooked from the first 10 minutes on. I managed to put in over 53 hours in two weeks, and have every intention of playing through again with evil karma. It is incredibly immersive, and easily worth the 60 dollars.

this game is probably the best game that I have (I think it’s even better than Modern Warfare 2) and the second disk that comes with the extras has amazing content, aswell. THis game is so amazing because you can choose any path in the game (like in the beginning, you choose whether you want to blow up the town and become bad, or to disarm the bomb and become good) I have just about beaten it (about 3 months of gameplay) and let me tell you, it never gets old. I definately suggest this version of the game because of the DLC pack (Disc 2) including Operation: Anchorage (which gives you the best armor in the game), The Pitt (which I haven’t even gotten to yet), Broken Steel (which expands the main game after you complete Fallout 3), Mothership Zeta (which I haven’t gotten to yet), and this other one that I cant remember the name of :/ hahaha :) but yeah, ITS PRETTY AMAZINNGG!!!

This game is awesome! It is by far my favorite RPG since KOTOR. I don’t think I’ve ever been as immersed into the world of a game as I have been in this one. One of the biggest complaints I’ve heard about this game is the combat, and how it doesn’t stand up to the action of a Halo or COD. If you want an action shooter, play those! This is not an action shooter. The best thing I can say about the combat in this game is that, unlike all the RPG’s I’ve played since KOTOR(Jade Empire, Mass Effect, Dragon Age) the combat doesn’t detract from the overall experience. The combat isn’t a selling point or a reason to play the game in itself, but, unlike those other RPG’s, I don’t cringe whenever combat comes up because it isn’t frustrating or a pain in the butt. You have two choices for combat: you can use the traditional RPG turn-based combat with VATS mode, in which you freeze the game to target specific body parts on specific targets and then watch the fun gratuitous gore in slo-mo as you kick butt, or you can just try to aim the cross-hairs in real time and pull the trigger as fast as possible. Depending upon the situation, both can be very effective. But, in the end, this is an RPG, and you don’t play this for action, you play it for the story, the choices, the character interactions, and to be immersed in a whole new world. And wow, the world of Fallout 3 is awesome! Set in a lawless, post-nuclear apocalypse wasteland, your character can be as bad or good as you can imagine. The game is laced with a great dark sense of humor, and some of the evil things your character can do are so over-the-top its just ridiculous, but to the point where its incredibly creative and entertaining in the process. That said, you can also do dark and terrible things that will make you feel dirty. I like to save like crazy so that I can try out multiple choices in each scenario, to find out a) which is more entertaining and b) which one I actually feel is the right one for my character and how I want them to progress in the game. I’ve logged in over 60 hours of gameplay and I’m still not even close to finished with the main quest, let alone the 5 expansions that come on the second disc of the game of the year edition, so the bang for your buck here is unbelievable for a single-player game. I have heard that you can fly through it quickly if you focus just on the main quest, but I’ve barely touched that since my interest is in exploring the world and seeing all there is to see and do. One of the coolest things about this game is that for every 3-4 hour gaming session I put in, I always seem to stumble across something awesome, whether it is a strange settlement, a weird new character, gaining a new skill or ability or weapon, etc. Sure, the world is so huge that I can easily spend an hour or two wandering aimlessly, but it always seems to pay-off. My one gripe about the game would be how much of the time is spent searching through loot and managing inventory, it’s probably taken up about 60% of my game time, but aside from that it’s just awesome. So, in conclusion, I would highly recommend this game to any fans of RPG’s, especially those who have a dark sense of humor or an appreciation for the odd or the absurd.
