XBOX 360 Gears of War 2 - Game of the Year EditionMicrosoft Gears of War 2 Action/Adventure Game - Xbox 360 - English$29.99http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61P4Iy%2BfpHL._SL160_.jpg
This edition is exactly the original game, shrink-wrapped on it’s own, same UPC code/SKU/part number. The card with the download key for the extra content is separate from that shrink-wrapped package, outside the original game, and the two pieces -original game and download card- are packaged again, with the GOTY packaging.
So you could buy this for the extra maps and mission alone, and resell (or even return) the game CD itself, as the standard GOW 2 product.
One of the best games on the 360, features a dramatically different art style, new weapons and modes, horde is a very nice addition to people who want to play coop multiplayer in a more relaxed, less competitive setting.
The original Gears of War wasn’t the all mighty game that a lot of people claimed it to be, it had dozens glitches and was a short game that didn’t offer much replay value.
However, with the sequel, these problems are unseen. The game is three times longer than it’s predecessor, has a steady frame-rate, even better online multiplayer (but still has lag problems, unfortunately), and to top it off, truely amazing graphics.
STORY: The sequel picks up a couple of months after the original, the locust have returned with a force even more agressive than before and have begun to sink entire cities.
On a side note, the game contains a very intresting sub-plot, Dom (Marcus’ best friend and brother in arms) is searching for his wife Maria throughout the game. This was a great decision on EPIC’s part to include this in the game because it gives you a reason to like the main characters even more and also gives you an even better reason to hate the locust.
GAME-PLAY: While still heavy and sometimes clunky, it is even more violent and in your face then any game out there. It plays nothing like the original, in my opinion anyway. This game has set the bar for third person shooters in almost every way possible
GRAPHICS: Polished to near perfection, with minor pop-in and frame-rate issues, this is the best looking game on the xbox 360. (At least for the time being)
GAME OF THE YEAR EDITION: This edition of the game includes all the downloadable maps. These maps are the selling point of this edition (but you must have xbox live to download them), plus “The Road to Ruin” deleted scene is a lot better than parts of the regular game.
THE VERDICT: If don’t already own this game, then this is the perfect package.
Gears of War was a breath of fresh air when it came out. It had amazing graphics, unique and perfectly refined combat, and an online combat that is hard to beat. So all that was required with the sequel was to refine the first, and make it more refined. In this, the game succeeds. The levels have improved the “get stuck in one area and bombarded by bad guys” issues that were so constant throughout the first game. Not only is there a longer and more interesting campaign, there’s more to do, and a new variety of actions. The graphics have been updated, and I must say, this game is far more fun with a friend through the campaign than on its own, though that is pretty fun as well. An A-List title that is great fun.
As to the game of the year edition, there’s no reason to get it if you own the game already, as all you get are some codes to download the extra content. However, if you don’t have it, then this is the edition to get, as the down-loadable content is almost as much as this full game. Overall its one of the best games you can get for the xbox 360, and a worthy edition to your collection. Highly recomended!
I absolutely love this game, there is a reason why it is labeled the best 360 game ever made. The campaign is fun but what I really enjoy is the online game-play. Extremely fun when you play with friends. The learning curve to the game is pretty difficult, so its nothing like an other shooter. If you own a 360 and don’t own this game, I really don’t understand why you even own an xbox…. seriously why?
When I played the first Gears Of War, I was instantly hooked to no end. Sure, it has it’s roots in the old-school shoot em’ up genre of games past, but the core dynamics of the gameplay is what really makes it shine along with it’s impressive selection of weapons and the strategies that you are able to perform at your disposal. Having just finished GoW, I really enjoyed it; however, I felt that the main story was too basic and left a lot of unresolved plot points and character development was virtually non-existent to the point where I didn’t feel any emotional attachment at all. But it left me anxious to see what happens next so without hesitation, I decided to purchase Gears of War 2. Well, I say that I’m glad I did. Because it gave me what I wanted and more. I won’t reveal anything but the story, plot, and dialog are much better than the first game. The graphics are really amazing, especially if you have a high-def TV with a booming sound system to match. And boy does it sound lovely. Every explosion, gunfire, and sounds of gushing flesh and body parts really sets it off.
Since I decided to skip the regular version, I bought the “Game of the Year” edition instead and let me tell you it’s more than the original. You get not only new maps for multiplayer, but also a hidden chapter that was cut from the original release( for reasons unknown) as well as a free Gold membership. That and the Horde mode is a blast. I played with it a few times and it’s addictive as hell and you can play it online too; another added bonus to an already stellar package. If you liked the first game than you’ll LOVE GoW2. One of the best action games on the Xbox 360.
I didn’t get into Gears of War until a few months ago. I never thought I’d like it. I was wrong! This game drew me in with the story line and just bad ass attitude. The gameplay is much better than the first game, though I enjoyed that one too because of the story line. I realize I was a latecomer to the Gears of War fanclub but better late than never! I hope they come out with a third one because the storyline could definitely be developed further. GET IT AND PLAY IT!
This a geat single player and co-op playing game. The online multiplayer is a lot of fun. Hordes, hordes… Nicely done Epic, thank you for a great game and hours of fun!

I love this game (glad I waited to buy with all the extras thrown in).
Seriously, the game is better than the first one and the free maps put the icing on the cake.
The maps are not on the disk (you get a code to download the maps) but this is not a problem for me.

Oh, yeah, great game.

The first Gears is the reason I purchased a 360 and this one is a fine sequel.
