This is probably the true “killer app” of the launch date (with all due respect to Perfect Dark Zero). Exceptional graphics and sound, quality game play and a lot of fun on X-Box Live. My only complaint I guess is that the offline multiplayer could be a little deeper (with a co-op mode for example), but that was not in the original anyway, so that’s just wishful thinking. If you love shooters and have some interest in history or WWII, this is a must buy!

After playing the PC version of the first call of duty, and the expansion pack, I didn’t quite know what to expect from the xbox 360 version. On the PC the game is smooth, precise, exciting, and overall a great deal of fun.

This game does not disappoint on the xbox 360. The battles are unbelievable. They are epic, fierce, and make you really feel like you’re there at times. The pace is fairly adjustable since you can play to your play style for the most part. On most difficulty levels you can run and gun or sit back and play the sniper or let your boys do some of the work, etc. The easiest difficulty level is really, really easy. However, the veteran difficulty is really, really hard (but not unplayable, it’s actually very fun because of the realism).

The online component is equally enjoyable. You can play with up to eight players in a few different kinds of matches. The levels are great (some are from older versions), and the competition online is good. I do notice major lag issues in about 25% of the games I play. When it does lag it’s basically unplayable. However, I just jump out of that game, into another room and it’s fine. Without lag, it’s probably the best online game I’ve ever played.

They definitely need to do some work on the online ranking system (it doesn’t work at all) and the online “lobby” (there isn’t one). But the actual gameplay online is crisp and exciting.

I purchased most of the launch titles for the Xbox 360. This one is definitely my favorite so far. Some of the other games are solid, but this one is the most fun both online and off.

This is one of the best games out there to date

    The best console shooter though.

If you want a good, kind of free forming shooter, get this

but if you want an extremely strategic and realistic shooter, get brothers in arms

“Call of Duty” lovers will be eagerly awaiting the arrival of another “United Offensive” Expansion pack after finishing this stunning WWII fps. In 2004 the next best single player shooter to “Half-Life 2″ was “Call of Duty 1″. Needless to say COD2 brings us yet another damn fine sequel effort to rival anything else on the shelf. COD has firmly taken over where “Medal of Honour: Allied Assault” first got our attention in trying to recreate the “Saving Private Ryan” experience for us all. The COD series is built on the same concept as MOH except there is more action, more high-octane moments and a very different type of enemy AI. COD2 has upgraded the enemy and platoon squad AI from COD1 so that your comrades can identify the enemy and instead of scripting each action sequence as in COD1, COD2 depends on AI so that a rerun of any level will play differently although the situations remain the same. COD2 also has a lot more going on in terms of what you can pilot and drive although not freely but as part of the storyline. COD2 retains all the cinematic intensity that its predecessor successfully claimed and even expands on each of the earlier episodes over the course of a four year WWII period to give us Moscow 1941 – Red Army Training, Demolition, Stalingrad 1942 – Repairing the Wire, The Pipeline, Stalingrad 1943 – Downtown Assault, City Hall, Comrade Sniper, El Alamein 1942 – The Diversionary Raid, Hold the Line, Operation Supercharge, El Daba 1942 – The End of the Beginning, Libya 1943 – Crusader Charge, 88 Ridge, Tunisia 1943 – Outnumbered and Outgunned, Retaking Lost Ground, Assault on Matmata, D-Day 1944 – The Battle of Pointe du Hoc, Retreat? We’re Advancing in Another Direction, The Silo, Caen 1944 – Prisoners of War, The Crossroads, The Tiger, The Brigade Box, Hill 400 1944 – Approaching Hill 400, Rangers Lead the Way, The Battle for Hill 400 and Germany 1945 – Crossing the Rhine, where you get to play as either a Soviet or a Brit or as a member of the US forces. Missions range from basic training, defending against attacks, counterattacks, planting explosives, repairing cut field wires, contacting HQ via the field phone, disabling Panzer II tanks, crawling through pipelines, taking out enemy snipers, destroying fuel barrel supplies with some of the best explosion effects seen in any game to date, destroying ammo depot supplies, gathering enemy documents, defending lower lines by using close-range weapons and artillery support, clearing out bunkers, radioing in for artillery bombardments, taking a Mosque, driving tanks, holding out for 5 minutes till support arrives, clearing the buildings in the town, sniping the artillery crews from a Silo tower, finding wounded Americans, transporting the wounded, taking a farmhouse and barn, taking out mortar crews and if that is not enough… securing a hill from a German advance. The smoke effects are absolutely photorealistic and have set a new benchmark for graphics quality. The textures might let the game down a small bit, including very blocky building designs or similar house interiors that are repeated at several points in the game but the environments and maps are genuinely war like all the way through and can not be faulted. The enemy AI and your own team AI are much more realistic than COD1 and your team is reliable. If you get too close to the enemy you will engage him in close quarter combat. Although Call of Duty was never meant to be a war simulation, but more of a 1st person war adventure, to be honest, does exactly what it says on the tin. So apart from the staged element, which actually ads to the game, it is more of an experience than a game you will turn to time and time again, however it is worth it for the experience of the single player mission alone. It is also much longer than COD1 and OU, where COD1 had a 1.5 day game span and UO had 3, COD2 will last you for well over a week if you play one mission a day. The pandemonium of war is all here in a spectacular fashion because the story is a winner as you play a mini version of BAND OF BROTHERS and ENEMY AT THE GATES. Like COD1 you even feel loss at the end but for some reason the connection to your comrades in COD1 was a lot stronger because it was more scripted. The AI detracts from that connection a little bit, but I am only cribbing.

    Pros:

    - Cinematic gaming.

    - Best new war game and a worthy 1st person shooter.

    - Awesome war atmosphere.

    - Smoky explosions.

This is game is simply amazing. The graphics are amazing you can see every little detail and there is no framerate problems at all even when your fighting dozens and dozens of enemys. The AI is awesome it is never the same game because of this they react to your moves very smartly and they use different tactics each time you play. The controls are some of the best controls in a game. This is why this game is the best war game.

This is really the only game you need on 360 right now. Maybe “Condemned”. Regardless, I don’t know what these other guys are reviewing but this is not Call of Duty 1 plus. This is an exclusive game with exclusive levels. No, you don’t die with two hits…unless you’re playing it on extremely hard.

This is the single greatest war game ever made. It easily gives Halo a run for it’s money, and blows that piece of crap Halo 2 out of the friggin’ water.

The SOUND is amazing. Your comrades are always yelling, bullets zipping by, grenades going off infront of you, etc. etc.

And if you see the commercial with pre-rendered graphics that are meant to LOOK like gameplay—no. Anyone could tell that’s not in-game graphics.

HOWEVER, this game looks BETTER than it’s PC counterpart, and isn’t worth the $60 pricetag, but rather an $80 or $90 one.

The only flaw? I don’t wanna play as a Russian damn you! All American all the way!

Do you ever stop to think just how ignorant people can be, or how they judge something before giving it a chance. I don’t know about you but it simply amazes me that people would review a game purely off some half rendered screen shots, or what their friends say. YES, i have the game. I picked myself up a copy two days ago, and i have one word which should be enough for you to buy it this instant. Bone jarring, edge of your seat, nail biting intense action. ok thats more like 10 words but you get the picture. The moment i popped this baby into my brand new 360 i was hooked. The very first mission casts you into the action; tanks firing, bullets whizzing past your head, bombs landing in front of you as you charge through the dirt and smoke towards the enemy. And the action never lets up from there. People let me tell you, and you can quote me and anyone else who has PLAYED this game, this is one of the most intense, realistic, and overall fun games in a long, long time. I had trouble believing it myself. The graphics were unbelievably realistic. The gameplay was a fast paced free-for-all deathmatch at some points, and at other points it was more tactical. The enemy AI is by far the best i have seen in a game yet. For all of you frustrated with the lack of challenge presented while defeating the game, even on the highest difficulty setting, you will not be let down. This is due in part to a totally unpredictable enemy. In past games, the enemy would only shoot at you if you knew where he was, and vice versa. Now, they take cover, retreat, charge, throw grenades, dodge your grenades, they’re virtually unpredictable. Thats what makes this game so fun. you don’t know whats coming next. No one wants to play a game where they know how everything will play out before they pop the game into their system. The action lasts a great deal longer than most war games, including 3 seperate campaigns and 27 levels in all. I promise you this one of the best, if not the best launch title for the 360, and one of the best shooters in a long time. You will NOT be dissappointed, i promise you.

(ps. i only reviewed the aingle player portion of the game, beating it more than once so i could give an accurate review. i will be back soon with a full review of the online features of this game)

I love the FPS genre. There’s just something about running around and blowing things away that relieves the day’s stress. That said, if you’re new to the CoD games like I was then there’s some adjustment to be had. It’s not a straight run and gun kind of game. For one, varying degrees of movement and strategy are required to get at your enemies without getting taken out. Second, if you’re used to a plasma gun with 400 rounds then the frequent reloading of historical weapons will take some getting used to. But all this adds to the great interface, graphics, and especially storyline of this great game. I can’t wait for Call of Duty 3!

I’m not a “gamer” folks and hopefully will never claim to be, but this game, in my book anyway, has to go down as simply one of the best that I’ve ever played.

The story is pure (true to the subject) and when showing it to a history buff Major of mine in the U.S. Army he was amazed at the ability to almost relive some of the most brutal and amazing battles that have ever takin place.

From a young Russian sharpshooter to a tank-commander to a british line-man to a U.S. Infantry Cpl., this game and its’ story takes you through the War.

The graphics are exceptional and I’m saying this even though being stationed in Korea I am unable to play on my high def plasma screen. I honestly can’t wait to see this thing on that coupled with my surround sound speakers. It’s actually the ONLY game that I would recommend so far (I own Ridge Racer6, Madden 2006 and NBA Live 2006) that I would say warrants the 60 dollar price tag.

The online play may be a bit suspect right now (but keep in mind that only like 100 other people in the world own the system right now) but that’s bound to be fixed in the near future.

I CAN say that one of my measures of ANY game at this point (keep in mind, that I’m NOT a “gamer”) is that if I actually am able to “beat” a game that I should feel somewhat disappointed. With that in mind, I can assure you that if/when you complete everything in this game you will wish that the story would JUST KEEP GOING…

If you’re looking for a fun shooter, with some real-life attributes, mixed with a lot of “WoW moments” – this is the game you’re looking for.
