    Pros

    good graphics

the exucution/trophy kills are awesome (especially predator)

    nice online multiplayer

the campaigns are good, i like predator’s the most

good weapons luckly none are too overpowered

    the maps are pretty cool

it is pretty much a game of rock, paper, scisors, the aliens beat predators, the predators beat humans, and the humans beat aliens

    Cons

the grabkills, in which you take your enemy and execute them are are kind of overpowered due to the fact that you can’t really do anything about it

some people tend to camp and hide in corners which can kind of ruin it

the human’s melee attack doesn’t do crap

the flamethrower is a pretty much useless weapon

the aliens can be really annoying at times in multiplayer

Overall good buy highly reccommend it to anyone, if you want to play it with me send a friend request (xbox 360 only) my gamertag is AwKwArD GnOmE, but hurry because i am planning on changing it soon.

I keep seeing negative reviews for this game(why?). I have played AVP when it was released in 1999 and I have recently played this one (though only the predator mission because I’m a predator fan) and I can honestly say this is the better game. Rebellion studios has done a tremendous job with this game and should be commended. The graphics are very nice but the aspect that I enjoy about this game is its controls. You can control the predator very well and be just as stealthy and deadly as the predator is in the movies. Yes, there are some very gruesome things you can do in this game including trophy hunt (removing skulls and spines both in a finishing kill and after the fact though only the skull once something is dead.)

The storyline is very intriguing and I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed this game. I don’t see very many good titles on the PC nowadays, but this is one of them. You get an awful lot of interactions and some insights to the predators in this game (i enjoyed the historical videos and the temple of “victory over the serpents”. I highly recommend this game to predator fans or just horror fans. Also, the software is very well written and runs very smoothly (my comp specs are 3Ghz processor with 4gb of ram and 1gb graphics card).

You have the ability to stalk humans and androids and there is one area where you can hunt humans (who can’t see you and don’t know your there) through some ruins in a temple. The aliens are not as fun to fight because they are always attacking you (regardless if your cloaked or not) and this becomes annoying after awhile.

I also enjoyed some of the “realism”. In the first predator movie when he walks through water, it disrupts his cloaking field. The same is true in this game. If you walk or fall into water, your cloak will fail and you will be spotted. The jumping is also very nice as it make you a formidable foe to the human and android AIs. It was amusing to be leaping around some unsuspecting foes and hear them shout “I got movement!” or “Something’s right on top of us!”. A con might be the fact that your plasma caster uses so much energy. However, the cloak uses almost none which is an improvement from the first game.

I have very little negative to say about this game and given that I had a short break this summer, it was very nice to have some time to play a game all the way through. I also think the timing is just right with the Predators movie being released this summer.

Bottom line, if your’re a fan of the Predator movies and would like to step into a predators shoes for awhile, this game is worth the meager 30 bucks.

BE CAREFUL!!!! if you get PC games on here used because if they use a keycode like this game you will get ripped off because you cant use the same code twice. It didnt dawn on me til i was trying to install it that it might need a registration code. i was ripped off so be cautious about getting software and pc games that use keycodes to install

Ok so i have been reading the reviews of this game.. And I would like defend Rebellion — because they are getting slashed by the critics and i can’t but wonder why? Maybe it’s because it’s a no-nonsense true AVP experience..

Forget about the bad reviews… This game is a nerve thriller to play.. First of if you, like I – is a big fan of the movies this game WILL NOT let you down. The story is the same – but the game is all new and polished.

First is the graphics. While i don’t have a capable DX11 card yet – this game looks good. It’s not Crysis – but I for sure don’t see this game looking worse than COD MW 2! The game looks sharp and the animation is extremely creepy. On the PC version there are some very nice details – but okay some textures could use a more hi-res resolution – but maxing out stuff – honestly i don’t see what makes the graphics bad.. Maybe we expect Crysis games coming out all the time. Does it pair with COD graphis… YES.. Anyone saying otherwise should take a serious look at things like vegetation and textures again in COD… This easy looks just as nice.

The gameplay is usual AVP stuff – you have to get used to the controls, but once you get to know them – it’s just like any other shooter. The scene, the atmosphere is INTENSE! So NO don’t let the kids play this – it’s down to the bone pure evil fear enduring to your mind. I had to OVERCOME my personal fear for facehuggers — and they look real – insanely real! The AI for the facehugger is very disturbing.. Expect to go total paranoia on the litttle bastards because they will outsmart you!

I have read about the AI being stupid… Where does that come from? Because my experience on Hard level is that they are quite good.. The Alien moves in circles around you — attacking when you panic or turn your back on it…! Tell me is that stupid AI ? And again my experience with Facehuggers.. Sorry but i don’t see the critics getting things straight here…

The sound is as always in AVP games a very important part – and yes it matches the franchises perfectly.. If you feel like 110% bada** Hudson and the drums keep you going forward to the sounds of Aliens screeming and Pulse rifles going off… Boy are you in for a treat.

The multiplayer part has some very interesting stuff going for it.. I like all the gameplay modes — but i do miss some sort of more deep player progression.

My conclusion is that the new AVP game is being bashed for not making the new revolution.. Well AVP should not and has not.. And that’s okay by me.. Because AVP is about two things.. The first is you getting the experience that you are caught in hell trying to get out barely alive.. The other is to scare the S**T out of yout.. AND THAT’S WHAT IT DOES!

I’m defending Rebellion here because I find this game to match and do better in many aspects compared to many other titles coming out..

Another point I would like to state is that — perhaps someone out there have a problem with gore in games – and that Rebellion have gone all the way to make it the blood drenching experience -AS IT SHOULD BE in this universe. This is not a nice game for all players like WOW.. No it was made for people able to handle the blood and gore required..

AVP 2010 in space no one can hear you scream!!!

First off I want to say that I spent years playing the old AvP games that were out back in the day (2000? 2002-ish?). They were really fun games and were really easy to play. This game has the same characters, yes, but is VERY different. You cannot play the old one well and expect to play this one well at all. Scroll down to see a briefing of differences between the old game and this new one.

The controls in this game are vastly different from any FPS I have played recently. If you are used to games such as Left for Dead 2 or Call of Duty 4 this would be a hard transition to make, particularly because decision making is part of every move you make. For instance, as a predator you need to target a jumping spot before doing so. If you like to bunny hop in-game or want to make a hasty escape via jumping it’s not going to work out. Personally, I thought this was a nice addition, since the predator jumps very far/high up anyway. The marine can jump “normally” and the alien jumps a bit higher and can stick on the wall or surface you aim and jump towards (makes surface transitioning easier and more controlled, imo)if you appreciate wall-walking and such you will love this.

You can lock onto targets in this game, which is a bitter-sweet thing. Bitter because it makes escaping a 1v1 difficult (but not impossible if you strafe left or right after knocking your opponent off of you or backwards). So if you’re pinned and on low hp, you’re done. It’s very much like a 3D fighter game in this respect, and is one of the aspects of this game that makes it very unique for an FPS. The 1v1 fights in this game are GREAT if you like fighter games (somewhat similar to aspects of God of War?) While it’s not nearly as complicated as something like Soul Calibur and you don’t have combos, you still have to make a certain number of moves based on defending (against regular attacks), breaking defense (with power attacks), and breaking through power attacks(with regular attacks). If you know what you’re doing you can get your opponent pinned down or grab them and do mega damage, often resulting in their demise.

After playing through the single player and on some of the presently available multiplayer, I can safely say this game is way more balanced than its predecessor. If you know what you’re doing, you’re never at a disadvantage playing any of the different species. Playing a predator is a lot more difficult than playing as a marine or alien, but once you learn it you are a powerful player on the field.

Marine – Primary ranged with weak melee for defense

Alien – Primary melee with pounce attack (if you can count it as ranged)

Predator – Balanced between ranged and melee

The single player storyline is very different in both span and quality between the races. The Marine storyline is really in depth and I think the longest, the alien storyline is the shortest and kind of spur of the moment do-this-do-that and here you are!, the predator storyline is between the two.

As of this moment (two days since official release) there is no dedicated server multiplayer available yet, so you only have the option of doing ranked games or pvp games with about 8 people. I will update my review as soon as servers become available. (they should be available now if they released the game… =/ ) -1 star for that – but since I can’t change that -1 later, I’ll just give it the benefit of the doubt now.

As far as graphics goes it’s nice and pretty, sure. Laggy? I don’t know. At first it lagged a bit, I played with my settings and I was fine (turning off the shadowing stuff fixed all of my problems- I had to do this with Oblivion too back in ’06). Compared to many other people I’m running a dinosaur with a decent graphics card and I think as long as you review the system specifications you should be fine. But all of our computers are very different so this is a moot point. I would suggest a good deal of RAM for this. I bought mine from Steam and am running the Direct X 9 version.

Differences between old games and this one:

    AvP (2001-ish)

    Easy controls

    Classic FPS styled

Humans had to find medpacs to heal

Aliens needed to consume bodies to heal; could pounce to travel long distances on open area maps

Unbalanced between certain classes and weapon sets

    Limited on melee attacks

Good multi-player set up and options

Broken weapons (Single sniper shot killed most species instantly and still 100% accurate when not zoomed in, and some predator weapons [disc] would auto target and NEVER miss, even if target moved behind something while disc was tracking)

Good selection of classes in each species (no rank system required to unlock)

    AvP (2010)

Difficult to control at first; easy when learned.

Combo between FPS and 3D Fighter, unique controlling system that is to be loved or hated

Humans have “stimulants” to heal (portable healing shots) that can be picked up; carry 3 at a time

Aliens regenerate over time, so long as they are not under attack. Eating bodies/heads is still much faster for healing. You cannot pounce to travel. So far there aren’t very many open-area maps so this isn’t much of a loss (esp with new wall walking and sprinting options)

Everyone can sprint. Aliens sprint the longest.

Lots of melee combat options added. Another love/hate point.

Balanced weapons (very big improvement here)

So far (at least in the presently available multiplayer system) different skins are unlocked based on XP gained in ranked matches.

I happened to like the new game a lot. It’s not going to replace the old one, but it’s a great game for people who like more than your standard FPS game and fans for the AvP series in general. If you don’t like the control set up, change it. It’s an option. I thought they were easy to pick up as is. Depends on what you like though. :)

PS The headbiting is actually realistic now – After all, that little mouth-in-your-mouth wasn’t going to fit a whole head inside it, was it? Now you pop a hole through their head. I thought it was funny…

    UPDATE

About two days ago Dedicated Internet Severs are available, so ranked matches aren’t the only multi-player online. A patch was released as well, making load times of games faster and editing some of the weapon functionality in game. More than anything, the game was more balanced than before. Can’t really tell what else it did. The ping for the available dedicated servers isn’t too bad. People on the servers averaged 88-256. If you don’t have a high speed/reliable internet connection keeping up in online matches will be impossible because (as in the old game) spawn killing is very rampant.

I installed the game on a new computer with Windows 7 on max specs. to try the DirectX11 version to see what the big deal was. Again, I installed via Steam. I still haven’t experienced any lag, and it’s true that the graphics really aren’t that much better than running the DirectX9 version on an older PC. Installing my game on Windows 7 didn’t make my computer stop working. What it did do is make waking up from sleep mode impossible the first time after install. Just restarted the computer. No biggie.

So I can see why the people playing for epic graphics are upset/disappointed. I only play games if they’re fun. Getting a new computer made my other games very pretty, though.

Another note is that you’ve always been able to change your species in multi-player and decide what kind of game you wanted to play. It’s just not as in-your-face as other games. You need to read what’s on your screen. For a ranked match you need to filter out what kind game you want on the screen prior to quick-matching. In ranked matches, if you play one species too many times, they lock it until you balance out your ratio with the other two. Well duh, it’s a ranked match. Spamming one species for XP doesn’t make you 1337. On Regular PvP Online games it’s always open to you to decide because you do not receive XP.

Sure, it’s a bummer they don’t have all the different classes they did in the last game. You won’t spawn with the weapons you want based on the character/class you chose. I love how glorified AvP(2000) is now, especially considering how virtually every server would have rules saying you can’t use this weapon or that weapon because they’re for “noobs” (examples: Predator disc, predator shoulder cannon, marine rocket launcher, marine grenade launcher, runner aliens if you had high ping, etc.). A game in which so many people banned the use of so many things wasn’t perfect. I highly doubt the players of this game will find any server-based restrictions on weapons in the future. It was still fun as can be though. I love the addition of the mixed species TDM though, it was something many of us playing the old game wanted to be able to do. If you want a marines vs corps spin off, you can always play a mixed species TDM to separate two groups of marines.

This game is incredible. I’m am far beyond impressed with the graphics and I have to turn everything to the lowest setting!Currently playing through the Alien and Predator missions and it great. The only drawback is if you have a computer that’s not up to date with this game. Mine jitters but that’s not the games fault, so don’t listen to those type of reviews. The DL time took me a little over an half-hour which is a lot better than others have had, so you may or may not get lucky on that note. It’s a little disappointing that the Predator only gets four weapons excluding the wristblades, but they are fun enough to use on their own. In short, this game is a must have if you a fan (I mean a true fan) of the series (not just AvP mind you) or you have a kick ass computer that can handle the specs. Even if they don’t – as I found out – it’s still a fun game. Here are my specs: Vista, 3GB RAM, DirectX 10, Intel core(TM)2 Quad CPU 6600 2.4 GHz, and NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT.

Totally fun to play. In the single player, some of the missions were awesomely scary. With the lights out, loud volume, and a little buzz of course. Played the AvP from way back in the day. 1999 maybe? Two thumbs up.

Have not played multi yet because I am going to finish single first.

I don’t understand why this game got so many low reviews, especially since it doesn’t have a bad DRM issue (although it requires steam…but such is life)

Honestly, the single player is a waste of time apart from using it to learn the control scheme :(

But if you’re like me and you prefer to compete online, AvP is fantastic. Each race feels authentic and fun to play, yet they are very well balanced. It is strategy, rather than reflexes that will give you an edge in multiplayer.

Marines- their physical abilities are lacking- they cannot sprint or jump very well. But they make up for it with a motion sensing radar and a decent selection of weaponry. The winning strategy is to stick together and engage other races at range.

Alien- Exceptionally fast, can jump and climb and crawl on walls etc. They have a “sixth sense” which lets them see enemies through walls at a certain range, and their melee attacks are exceptionally quick and potent. To win as an alien, you have to make use of your speed and agility to get close enough/behind other races in order to kill them.

Predator- Predators can cloak themselves to hide from humans, can jump around a little better than aliens, have solid melee, and a wide variety of equipment and vision modes. To win, you have to stay cloaked and jump around in order to avoid detection by marines, and stay in high and/or well lit places to avoid getting killed by an alien. Also, it’s all about knowing what equipment to use against your prey:

-marines are best killed with the spear and mines, heat vision

-aliens are best killed with mines, disc, and plasma caster, alien vision

The graphics may be just OK and the single player may be lame, but AvP is a pleasure to play online.

I never tried earlier AvP games before but this one is the best FPS I purchased since Crysis. I always played shooters for good story and atmosphere. However,in AvP, I like gamepley itself. Story is of minor importance and campaigns are short. Gameplay is unique, addictive and I think it can work well in multiplayer mode. Graphics are good and game runs very smoothly on my PC. Game is free from crashes(at least in single player mode)- this fact becomes a value since so many pc games are ruined by technical problems these days.

There are three species to choose from – Marine, Predator, Alien. There are also three seperate campaigns for each class.

    1. Human(Marine) campaign – it is standard FPS game. There is rather nothing innovative in this one(maybe except motion tracker). A lot of details are taken from “Aliens”(1986) movie and I really love this fact. Motion tracker, weapons, and sounds are similar. Moreover, industrial compound in the campaign looks just like colony’s settlement from “Aliens”. Enviroment is dominated by darkness so player needs to use flashlight and Flares almost all the time.

    2. Alien campaign – this is my favorite. “Number Six” uses no guns, but only its claws, teeth and tail. However, xenomorph is very fast, can run walls, vents and ceiling, or jump to any surface. Moreover, it uses darkenss for its adventage. Its abilities are very useful for sudden and unexpected, deadly strikes. Skillful players can have a lot of fun with this one.

    3. Predator campaign – player needs to combine meele combat(wristblades, combi sticks or smart disc) with devastating firepower(plasma caster, proximity mines). In a ddition, Predator has plenty of special abilities like cloaking device, zoom, vision modes or distraction. Veriaty of tactics makes Predator’s campaign interesting.

I think this game adds new dimension to FPS genre, just like Crysis before(with its awesome “maximum” tactics). Especially Alien and Predator campaigns provide new fascinating experience.

AvP is another shooter, after Crisis, that ecouraged me to try FPS multiplayer mode, because of its awesome gameplay and because I know I will stick to this title for long.
