As far as a racing sim, it certainly has a better physics model than most other racing games. Car types include open-wheel, touring and NASCAR offering something to fans of many a genre. The only negative aspect of the game was the lack of real-world cars, products, drivers that gamers and race fans tend to expect in racing games today. Other than that, it’s a blast.

Despite basicly being a mod platform, rFactor does it right.
Great graphics and sound, and tons of tracks from across the world and great mods by CTDP, MMG and others make it worth it for Formula fans, and other forms of motorsport.
It’s worth the price.

Great game, wonderful online community. Hundreds of cars, hundreds of tracks. Check out rfactorcentral.com to see all that is available. New cars and tracks released almost daily. Always something new to try. F1 cars racing against huge semis at Bristol or NASCAR at Monaco. Off road trucks & buggies, sprint cars, late models, modifieds, rallycross, F1 from 1955 to present, champs cars, IRL, AMLS, stock cars, touring cars, sports cars and many more.
Can you tell….I’m an rFactor junkie.

As it comes, rFactor is a great racing sim. What makes it special are all the free cars and tracks you can download. You can customize rFactor for any type of racing you can imagine. From driving a go kart around Monaco to driving a Zonda at Laguna Seca.
Check out [...] to see what is available. Like the iPhone and it’s apps, rFactor’s free downloads make this sim special.

rFactor is the greatest driving game on the market.. there are unlimited tracks and mods you can use with this game. purchase it 1 time and you can download more tracks and different cars and trucks (from F1 to lawnmowers!)
than you can ever drive. There is new stuff constantly being developed for it everyday. If you have a computer that will allow you to max out the graphics this game has to offer, you will be AMAZED!!!

I got this a few years ago and have been happy with it. This game is really the successor to the F1 Challenge series EA and ISI put out a while ago that is also heavily modded. I have F1 seasons and tracks from 79,88,91,05,06,07,08,09 as well as Champ Car 05-06, Indycar 94-95,08-09, GT cars, Mclaren F1 Challenge, Zonda Challenge,Historic Rally Cars Mod, F430 Challenge, and a lot of single cars for use in the all tracks and cars series.
You can use any track for any car you have, say using Indycars on F1 tracks or GT cars on Ovals. I’ve got I would say about 100 tracks from the modding sites as well as the series mentioned above for over 20GB’s of data, so rFactor is really not about the stuff it comes with but the stuff you can get online that makes it the ONLY racing game you should have. You can get Formula Japan, GP2, and many other series cars and tracks. They are free to download and the details and graphics are amazing in most of them, the best I’ve seen are the CDTP F1 2006 and IDT Champcar and Indycar series. The GT ALL 3.96 comes with both new and old GT cars in a lot of paint jobs and configurations, including Porches, Mosler, Corvette, Viper, Saleen, Ferrari and any of the other GT1/2/LM/etc. classes you can think of.
There are hundreds of tracks to download and race from every corner of the world as well as fantasy tracks and cars. Like I said you can race any car on any track. Either they have self installers or you just copy and paste into the locations folder to install, the same goes for the cars.
This is really best for open wheel, touring cars, Stock cars and any other asphalt/circuit based racing, it’s OK for dirt rally or trucks but those are best in the dedicated games like Collin Mcrae or Richard Burns. This game is fairly easy to adjust the difficulty and other settings once you play around with it. I’m no strict sim player and thankfully you can pretty much adjust it to whatever level you want.
This game also has multiple 3rd party plugins for realistic cameras, textures, data acquisition, wet tracks and almost anything else. You should go to [...], fileplanet or softpedia to get cars, tracks and plugins. So depending on your level of interest this game could replace your collection of separate games for separate racing types and be relevant for a long time to come, every race game fan should get this period.

Incredible car simulator. Squeaking brake discs, whining dogbox gears, amazing physics. Plus hundreds of tracks, cars, skins. What more can you ask for?

I have only recently begin to play with the racing games, but I just purchased a Logitech G25 Racing Wheel with the pedels and shifter, and rFactor was my first try.I think it is an outstanding racing sim.At one time I raced super stock cars, and this was as close to driving a car as I could imagine. It’s a fun game.I have nothing but good things to say about it.It would make a great addition to anyones collection.

I’m not going to write about all the tech stuff. I’ve been driving sims for many years. There were some good ones from EA Sports and a couple of NASCAR games.
GTR2 is a great sim and RFactor in my opinion is the best. I play both regularly but RFactor the most.
Buy either one and you can’t go wrong.

I purchased this game for use with my Logitech G25 force feedback wheel. Man, am i happy with it! the cars are completely tuneable in fine incriments from rev-limit to brake bias. almost all the cars are upgradeable too (not the F1 cars). there is a good selection of open wheel racers from low hp trainers to F3000 and F1. there are stock cars and several different closed cockpit vehicles too with FWD, 4WD, and RWD trims. unfortunately the vehicles have that “generic” style too them that somewhat poorly emulates the real vehicle it was styled after. its obvious this title was designed around extremely accurate car physics and not aesthetics, however the cockpit view in each vehicle is very detailed and realistic.
there is a small handful of courses to choose from with a few variations of each. there is a large mixed dirt/tarmac rallye style course that lets you test your off-road capabilities- highly recommend! it winds through mountain s-turns then back down to the valley and through a small town. a skilled player can enjoy drift style technique on the tarmac s-turns; incredibly difficult but challenging and fun on a racing wheel. the oval style racing in either the F1 or stock cars is also really fun. it lets you fine tune your car to find the perfect setup to get a nose out on your competitors.
overall this is an excellent racing simulator. the graphics and sound effects are super realistic. the only room for improvement would be name-brand vehicles and a few more tracks to choose from. definitely one that will stay in my gaming library for years to come. i only recommend this title if you have or will be getting a force feedback wheel with clutch and 6spd gearbox capabilities.
