I recently purchased this controller. It worked perfectly for about 40 days, then ceased to function. Contacted seller about returning, but was informed that warranty is only for 30 days and they would not accept any returns or exchanges. Thanks for nothin’, Retrolink!

I recently reviewed the Classic USB Super Nintendo Controller for PC and unfortunately they’re very similar. The buttons are stiff and it’s really hard to use if you’re used to a real NES controller. I played Super Mario Bros and it was almost impossible to hold the B button and jump with A. I started getting cramps after a few minutes. Over weeks and weeks of playing the buttons do loosen up, but it just feels like no care was given to this product. They eye-balled the controller and just got close. It’s unfortunate, because those of us who buy products like this really do care about recreating that feeling of playing our old Nintendo Entertainment Systems. This is just too disappointing to recommend. If you love NES games just buy a SNES/NES FC Twin Video Game System – Black top loader and stock up on the real cartridges, or at least try a different controller. This one doesn’t cut it.

My initial impressions of this controller are pretty good. It is the same size as a classic NES controller and has a very similiar feel. Windows XP recognized the controller right out of the box, just plug-in and play.
My only gripes are with the Start/Select buttons and the D-Pad. The Start/Select buttons function perfectly, but are hard plastic instead of the rubbery texture found on an actual NES controller, and as a result protrude further from the controller. The D-Pad feels exactly like the classic NES D-Pad, but it’s much more sensitive. I often find the controller registering UP/DOWN when I am pressing LEFT/RIGHT. This can cause frustration in platformer games, such as Kid Icarus, where UP/DOWN stop your character in their tracks. But this controller is brand new, so perhaps the D-Pad will lose some of its sensitivity after some use.

Absolutely true to the original NES controller, I really enjoyed it for two weeks. Certainly wasn’t any where near as rough on it as I was when I was ten either, but its buttons started to only function intermittently, and then it stopped working entirely. I suspect the USB power internal to the controller isn’t connected anymore, and I’ll probably get around to soldering it up at some point, but hardware troubleshooting is a bit beyond me.
Playing Zelda through again was worth the 30 bucks. I hope you make a sturdier one of these at some point, brilliant piece of hardware.

This controller does exactly what I wanted it to do. It allows me to play original NES roms in my emulator while pretending to be ten years old again. It’s great. I haven’t had any of the difficulties other people have mentioned. I don’t think it feels particularly flimsy. Hopefully my d-pad will hold up. The only thing about it is it’s a one-trick pony. I’m new to the retro-gaming and found using keyboard controls awkward for the games I used to love. When I saw this product, I felt it a moral imperative to buy it since it replicates the look and feel of the original both in color-scheme and complete lack of ergonomic design. One-trick pony-wise, however, I’ve now come to realize that while this rocks the house (y’all) for NES, it leaves me a few buttons shy of SNES or Genesis games. I probably should’ve left nostalgia on the shelf and bought a more functional usb controller for all of my new-found gaming needs. However, if you’re like me and would gladly buy something just for the kitsch and for the ability to show it off, buy two.

When I saw this, I was excited about the prospect of playing the games of my childhood on my computer with the look and feel of the original (minus the blowing on cartridges). I loaded up an emulator, setup the controls to work with this controller, and started playing. Right away I noticed that while trying to move around, Mario would stop in his tracks. The D-pad is so sensitive, while you’re pressing right or left, the slightest movement of your thumb will press up or down. This renders Super Mario Brothers unplayable.
Also of note, the buttons stick up further than on the original controllers, and feel less squishy. The start and select are also hard plastic and don’t feel authentic (but, that’s really not a HUGE issue). All in all, this was a huge disappointment; I guess you get what you pay for.
I’m now looking into an adapter for my original controllers from RetroZone, or just dusting off my 20+ year old console for when I feel the need for a SMB fix.

This will bring back all those great memories while you play your NES roms and other gamnes using the best, most comfortable controller in existance. Being able to use it with my NES roms is icing on the cake, live on NES!

My wife and son love to play old games on a PC with an emulator. This unit puts them back in the action. Far superior to a computer keyboard.

I was slightly worried when I had read that the start/select buttons were made of plastic instead of rubber when I ordered the controller. To my surprise, when I received the controller, the buttons were rubber! This is a great controller. I could not be more pleased with my purchase.
