When I first picked up the box and saw “Disney Games” on the outside, I thought to myself that this game would be total junk like most other Disney Games are. Much to my surprise, this game is amazing. It has beautiful graphics, amazing framerate, and good gameplay. Unlike other ATV racing games the controls are balanced perfectly between “they dumbed this down so any idiot can play” and “this is so realistic that the tiniest bit of driving mistake will make you spin out.” The result is that the game controls incredibly realistic, but at the same time is responsive and easy enough that anybody in the family should be able to play.
If you like a good racing game, then I highly recommend Pure ATV Racing for the Xbox 360!!
I like an occasional racing game, usually Midnight Club. I have never really been into the dirt track racing games, and Pure looked like a knock-off clone of too many others I have demoed before.
I could not have been more wrong!
Pure is Pure Fun. I really enjoy playing this game. The sense of speed is great, but more, I like doing the tricks on the huge jumps. The controls are quick and easy to master, which is usually a problem for me in many racing games. I hate having to push a bunch of buttons to do the cool stuff, but Pure starts very easy and adds new stuff to learn as you go. Easy!
As you get better and win races, you unlock new stuff for your ATV. The customization feature is limited but fun.
I also finally played my first online game against real people. I though I would get crushed, as is usually the case with online racing games. But not so, I came in second in only my first race!
The graphics in Pure are really well done. No, it’s not the best graphically looking game on the PS3 or XBOX 360, but it does not matter. The graphics are good, and the fun factor pushes it over the top for me.
On either the PS3 or XBOX 360, you can download a demo of the game. Do it, and give it a try. Be assured that the retail copy is even better than the demo, with really great settings and much more fun.
I should say right off that while we play a lot of video games in our household, racing games usually aren’t high on the list. Usually, the games are too hard to master or too repetitious and thus get little play beyond 30 minutes or so. And while I’ve also done a bit of off roading, it’s not the sort of activity we’re prone to on the weekends; we’re more the quiet kayaker types. So it was with quite a bit of trepidation that I ordered Pure and loaded it into the Xbox 360; luckily, the game did not disappoint. It starts out with a great training, track which guides one through the essential moves that one needs to get started. The controls were very easy to use, and even at full speed we weren’t flying off the tracks every 5 seconds (indeed my 8 year old son who gets easily flummoxed by racing games like Mario Cart was a master in no time). Once one gets past the initial training, your all set to design your own off road racer and get on with real racing. There are various options that one can choose such as sprinting, or going on a world tour…I won’t go much into those as there are some very good in-depth reviews on such gaming sites as Gamespot that will do them justice better than I can. I will say that every mode that we played was fun and exciting and had my sons on the edge of their seats. In addition, the visuals in the game are just jaw droppingly beautiful. Just about every environment one could think of is featured, and in stunning detail…the screen on our HD plasma tv never looked better.
So if you never gotten into racing games, or have found them too difficult or tedious, take this game for a spin, you won’t be disappointed and might just find your self pumping your fist in “Pure” ecstasy.
This video game is a racer with the soul of an extreme sports game. There are times when you’ll be gunning for the finish line above all else, focused only on hitting your racing line and digging in to take corners perfectly. But most of your time will be spent doing things that shouldn’t be physically possible, and this is when Pure is at its best.
The now-standard basic racing control scheme is here — right trigger accelerates, left trigger brakes and the left analog stick steers your ride. Like many other off-road racing games, you can also “pre-load” your rig’s suspension before taking off from a jump by flicking quickly down and then up on the left stick to get even bigger air. Vehicle feel is extremely important in racing games, and Pure gets it right. Bikes have enough weight without feeling clunky when you get them airborne, and tires dig appropriately into terrain when you’re taking corners. Although there’s no damage modeling, opponents can bump you off the track or land on your head to unpleasant effect during a race, so it pays to stay out of the AI drivers’ way.
But the intuitive trick system is what sets Pure apart. When your quad is in the air, you can pull off tricks by hitting one of three face buttons and a direction on the left stick. You’ll start each race with only Level 1 tricks available. Land enough of these and the Level 2 tricks will open up, followed by Level 3. Each of these is mapped to the A, B and Y buttons on the Xbox 360 controller.
As you ramp up your trick availability during a race, you’ll also bank nitrous boost, shown as a fluid blue wedge beneath your trick meter and controlled by the X button. Depending on what type of race you’re participating in, you’ll constantly balance doing tricks, which fills your boost meter, and using that boost, which takes away your ability to pull off higher-level tricks.
Got this game a few days ago and my boys – 6 years old, and 36 years old (that would be my hubby hehe) LOVE it. The graphics are pretty amazing and the music is really good. Several songs from GH so my 6 year old sings along to half of them and plays until his little hands are numb. GREAT game and worth every $$!
Pure is the latest ATV entry on the 360, and it comes from Black Rock Studio and Disney Interactive. The game revolves around stringing together long sequences of tricks and catching a massive amount of completely over-the-top air in some seriously gorgeous environments.
Downloaded the demo and that was just the start of my PURE addiction. I play the hell out of a demo for a week staight. When finally I got my hands on the full game, it was like crack. The levels get sicker and sicker as you go through the single player, and multiplayer is just as satisfying. Basically you got 3 game modes; race sprint (smaller tracks with smaller jumps), and freestyle. Freestyle is funnest multi. because it’s a race to see who can get the most trick points. The tricks by the way are pretty insane especially as you’re turbo proggresses. So with that there is some strategy involved. Graphics are solid, sounds good, plays great. I fyou like Burnout series, I think you’ll be satisfied with PURE.
Gameplay: The trick system is fantastic and fluid. It’s easy to string together huge tricks that bring a smile to your face the first few times.
Graphics: Stellar. Everything looks fantastic, from the bikes to the riders to the environments and the mudslinging.
Sound: Something I didn’t hit on, because it can all be said here. Very simple, with a decent soundtrack and believable engine sounds. Pretty much all there is to it.
Entertainment Value: Great for a weekend diversion. You’ll have an enormous amount of fun for the first hour or two. Most gamers will probably find a steep decline in fun factor after that, when you’re performing your 300th no-hander.
Learning Curve: Simple to learn and fairly simple to master pretty much sums it up. The difficulty comes from memorizing the tracks and the different routes you can take. The learning curve will vary from person to person purely based on memorization ability.
Online Play: Performs beautifully, and if you’re going to buy the game and play it extensively, you’ll spend most of your time online
Finally, a racing game that I enjoy. The graphics are sharpe and vibrent. The controls are tight and not over complicated. Game play flows nicely. This a game the whole family could fun with. If you are looking for a game that delivers and does not take ten years to master then this is worth it. Simple but yet very entertaining.
This game is a single player video game in which you race or drive freestyle on an ATV. While playing, there are lots of sound effects of revving engines, sometimes an ATV rider speaks such as saying “Nice dude” and “Try and catch me!”. There is rock music playing in the background.
In order to get over certain terrain obstacles the gamer has to learn which tricks to do. The trick is both the action move as well as a funny movement the rider does (“air guitar”, “the can can” and so on). While doing a jump the ATV rider will usually release their arms and legs from the ATV. In order do the different tricks it helps to be familiar with where all the buttons are (without having to look at them) and to have good hand/eye coordination. The difficulty level of the tricks vary (easy, moderate, difficult). For the easy tricks, the buttons to press are easier to do, and to do the more difficult tricks it requires pressing two buttons at once. In order to do be able to do the different jumps you have to teach yourself which trick will work to accomplish the thing you need it to do to avoid crashing. If you do the wrong tricks and the ATV rider is not finished with their trick and back on their ATV at the time the ATC is over that obstacle (a jump or whatever), the ATV will crash. The challenge of the game is to teach yourself all the different tricks and for what kind of challenge plus when to stop doing the trick in mid-air at the right time so that you land well instead of crashing.
Another key to successful navigation and crash-avoiding is to learn when to use the boost and how to get the right kind of air. Like the other moves, this comes with practice and with trial-and-error.
To add to the complexity of the game, the gamer can choose to be one of different six riders, the gamer can change riders before starting a new race on a different track, but you can’t switch mid-race. Each of the six players has special tricks that they do. The game player needs to learn through experience which riders do which tricks, what each rider’s strengths are. As the game is played the gamer learns which races and tracks have the different types of terrain challenges. In order to do well in each type of terrain, they must strategize ahead of time and change riders in order to match the track’s challenging terrain to the strength of the rider.
At first one of my sons (age 11) was frustrated by the fact that he must play the game for a while to learn which buttons to press to do which action. He grew frustrated and said he didn’t like the game. The other son (age 8, who for some reason picks up on gaming techniques easier) loved the game right off the bat. As my older son watched his brother play he learned the tricks and it didn’t take long before he also came to really like the game. The game is fun to watch and my boys laugh while watching the other play.
This game has a lot of action. The graphics are great. My boys said “It is just like Paradise City but with ATVs not cars”.
A little background. I have a 12year old son and a 6year old son that both have had the QUAD/ATV experience in the hills in and around Pennsylvania. We take them there from Nj once in a while so they can use kid size atv’s with the proper gear.
I saw this item come up on the Vine and I was a bit hesitant to get another Video Game…but I figured eh, what the hay…..lets try it.
The game was in our XBOX 360 the night we received it and it was played for an hour or two. These two had gotten control of the game and they were modifying their own ATV’s and doing things which I dont think they could do in real life. Every aspect of the ATV can be modified, which makes the game a bit more fun and exciting.
The usual run for a video game in our home is about 2 days and then the interest dies off….well not this time. So far we are at about 5 days and I have seen hours of play on this thing with game saves. They used it all weekend and really tweaked their ‘ride’ so they could do stunts and get the points for so called ‘AIR’. All terms that I was taught in the past two days.
My older son was a little miffed about the actions of the game when one rider hits another…some hand gestures…but its a punch gesture and so he got over it when he saw it clearly.
The game is fast paced and great for my 6 year old as well as my 12 year old. Highly recommended.
I am a chick and I find myself getting more and more into racing type games. This one here is fun you get a Atv type vehicle. I never used a xbox before so I borrowed a friends to play this game on. First off the graphics are really really good compared to how graphics used to be on older games and systems. Its almost like your right there in the game itself playing it. You get to do all sorts of cool tricks where it feels like your almost flying through the different landscapes/scenery. Choose between different characters ,vehicles. There is multiplayer online stuff but I don’t get into that I like the single player options the best and this game is very single player friendly. the landscapes and scenery is really really nice on this game. The fun factor is way up there. Unlike alotta racing games this one too is rated E for everyone unlike another car game fave of mine GTA series. So this way all ages can play and enjoy this racing game.IT kind of in a vague way reminds me of one of my old old old faves excitebike for some odd reason. I would definitly recommend this for a christmas gift for those into these style of games . Kids of all ages will dig this game as well. This is one of my fave games so far for the newer systems .Thats all I want to say on this review bout this cool ,fun and awesome graphics game. I been seeing this game too alot lately on commericals while watching my fave tv channel g4tv and it looked glad i selected this being a video game freak i would definitly say others like me would enjoy this as well again specially as a xmas gift its so darn cool. I also love the garage . and customizing your ATV.There just so much to this . Actually I went out UPDATE and got myself my own xbox 360 to play this one so I am completely satisfied with it. Its a really realllllllllllllllllly fun game for everybody .It really gets your Adrenalin pumping and has lots of excitement.
