This game is great. My roomates and I have spent hours playing the dang thing. The random luck factor makes the game very, very challenging (and sometimes annoying) but we keep coming back for more. I highly recommend this game. I’ve got it on both the Wii and DS. Good stuff.

I have spent many hours at this game. It’s like if the game Munchkin were to be made a board game that has been made into a video game. It’s great for a group of people… as long as you don’t let tempers flair.

Dokapon Kingdom is Mario Party meets Final Fantasy with the attitude of Munchkin. If you are not a fan at least one of these then, playing alone, you might enjoy the irreverent humor while exploring the large cartoon world, but sure enough, the feeling of a tediously long game of monopoly will begin to creep in and sap away the fun. Luckily, the strength of the game is playing with friends (like Mario Party). What sets this game apart is the RPG gameplay (distribute stat points, collect equipment and items, play as varios classes, fight monsters for xp, etc) and the playful backstabbing competition it encourages (when you defeat another player you can change their hair, draw on them, change their name, etc). A single game could last for days (you can save and resume later, luckily) but 3-4 of hours is more typical.

For people who are already fans of Dokapon’s influences, this game will be addictive. For everyone else, Dokapon will get old after a while, but there’s still a lot of fun to be had with friends in this quirky adventure. I’m in the former category, but I’ve seen plenty of people in the latter fully enjoy Dokapon as well. Highly recommended!

This is my first review so bear with me…

    Objective

I have been playing this game for several weeks now and I find it incredibly fun. You start off playing the game by choosing your gender then choosing one of the three starting job classes; warrior, thief, or mage. Then you begin to progress through the story line, fighting monsters and players, rescuing towns, and performing random tasks for the king. The whole point of the game is to have the highest net worth by the end of it, which is a combination of the amount of towns you control, you end amount of pocket change, and how much the king gives you for giving him gifts. It’s a fairly simple idea for a party game, and it is very similar to Mario Party’s collection of stars in order to determine a winner. At the end of a week, seven rounds of turns, it gives a summary of who is winning, so there is no guess work to see how you are standing up to the competition.

    Game play

The biggest part of this game is the fighting. You can fight monster, bosses and even players if you land on their space. The fights are tremendously fun and are simple of enough to pick up immediately yet have enough depth in order to not become boring as the game progresses. This game also displays both characters stats right next to each other so complete disclosure is possible. This helps the player to try and predict their opponent’s reaction, as well as to find their greatest weakness.

    Audio/Visual

Nothing spectacular, all of it pretty forgettable. The models aren’t the greatest; the sound is tolerable but definitely not inspiring. For me, the thing that sold me was the game play, a combination of rpg/party action.

To sum it all up, this game is really fun if you like rpgs and party games. Another person who reviewed this game complained that nothing was random and that it was all mapped out. However, unless you are trying to cheat by restarting enough times so that you can get your intended result, then this fact will have bearing on you whatsoever. The only other thing that I should mention is that this game is better played with other people (I think that this is true with most games :-) ). There is no deep story line to speak of and the computer can be hard, but when you beat you friend in a fight and take all their money, it can be very satisfying.

How to begin this, well.. For starters, this game is a lot of fun to play.. As long as you’ve got someone to play it with, I don’t imagine it would be any fun at all to play by yourself.. But the depth and addictive nature of this game when playing againsts your friends or in my case my girlfriend! Haha.. That is dangerous territory. It’s really funny, when we first started playing this game it was so sweet, we were being so kind to eachother, and the further we got into the game, the more blood thirsty and vicious we became towards one another. True colors start showing, believe me, haha which is great in my book. It might have alot to do with what kind of a player you are, but honestly this game brings out the competitiveness and pure cunning back sliding freak that you never thought possibly existed. We surprisingly were fine after playing the game though, for those who are curious. ;D

As for the actual game play, it’s relatively simple, and anyone can pick it up and play. And you don’t need to have a multi tap to play with 4 people, you can play the whole game through just one controller which makes it even more accessable. On a side note I totally hate games like Mario Party and the like but, the real selling point for me are the rpg aspects, and the class systems, and the pure depth in which you can sabotage your friends… Blackmailing, stealing their taxes, purses.. Cursing them, drawing on their face.. Changing their name to something less than honorable.. Haha, it’s just rediculous and so so funny! And if you start sliding so far behind there is a very evil and dark way to start reigning terror across the land, but you’ll have to play it yourself to see what I mean.

So if you’re looking for a break from the norm, and have a bunch of friends, pick this up before it’s gone. I mean, with all the games coming out these days, it’s really hard to decide what to play etc. Choose wisely, choose.. Dokapon. ;p

    Pros +

    Easy to play

    Great with friends

More than just a party game (rpg elements)

    Lots of replay value

    Class system

Cute anime art style with a evil demented twist

    Cons +

    Single player is a drag

Some of the battles become tedious and boring

    Backtracking through areas suck

Some people may remember that Disgaea was a sleeper hit. This has the potential to be the same. On the PS2 there is nothing else like this game that I am aware of. Each particular facet of the game is very simple. Win a game of Paper, rock, scissors, and walk away with a pocket full of coin. But the game as a whole can become very deep.

The game has PvP. It takes the form of a Suikoden style duels between players and monsters. When you enter combat and are on the offensive and press a button, the proper counter for you opponent is to hit the same button that you did. X is a “normal attack”, best countered by X “defense,” while Square is a super attack that if countered will cause you to take full damage instead of you opponent. As you win battles you will gain experience and level up and gain stat increases based on your job class.

Within a certain game chapter all players will have a main objective and perhaps several minors ones. The main one may be as simple as kill all monsters. The minors may request that you find and return to a certain city with an item. You’ll find that your one turn away from turning the item in when your “friend” suddenly runs by you and steals the item from you!! Perhaps you respond by casting a spell on him, causing him being unable to move and cast fireballs at him until the item falls back into your pouch?

Half the time you’ll be trying to hide your smirk, so that your friends won’t up and leave your house, the other half of the time you’ll be pulling your hair on and be two words away from throwing them all out of the house yourself!.

    Pros:

+Innovative gameplay (you move around a board and game levels, basically a cross between board games and RPG)

+Enjoyable for gamers and non-gamers (I have non-gamer friends that can’t wait to come over again to play this game)

    +Enjoyable class/party leveling system

+Easy for players in last to catch up by becoming evil for a few turns

+Events in game are enjoyable and fun (like having to fight in a Coliseum and be the last one to survive)

+Story mode can be played with you and three other friends

+Options allow starting characters at higher levels, changing game mode, and allow saving of game

+Random in most aspects (I’ve redone turns before and have different outcomes)

    Cons:

-Graphics are fairly basic most of the time

-Hard to find the game to buy in Stores

-Some enemies will always counter when you try to strike them (which usually ends up killing you, although you resurrect after a few turns)

-Turns are taken sequentially (I would prefer simultaneous turn option)

-Computer players are not that random (I recommend never playing with a computer player)

    -No Online GamePlay

I have friends and family calling and wanting to come over in the weekend to play this game, it’s great.

It’s biggest down side is it’s sucks when you lose but you keep coming back. (btw this game is hard to find anywere!!, so get it while you can!)

This game is amazing. In it you are able to battle friends to curry favor of the king in order to unlock awesome jobs and to win the hand of Princess Penny as well as to become the next king of Dokapon, which can be done with either a female or a male character. Enjoy!!!

If you like Mario Party and RPGs then you’ll definitely love Dokapon Kingdom. I bought this game after hearing about it online and totally fell in love with the concept and now, after playing it for a couple of weeks, the game itself. It’s really great to play with people/friends, but as other reviews have noted, it’s a bit boring to play by yourself and the computer AI is kind of cheap/difficult. But seriously, who would buy this game to play it alone? I’ve had several sessions with friends and family, and they’ve all liked it. And it’s not just hardcore RPG fans who are going to like this game either. I had a friend who kind of likes video game but doesn’t spend a lot of time play them and who I visited for a weekend, and we did nothing but play this game for two days straight. At the end of the weekend, she ended up buying this game for her Wii. Given that it’s such a great multiplayer game and the price is incredibly cheap on Amazon (I bought it for $20; way cheaper than I have seen it in stores for either $30 or $40), I give this four and half stars (which ends up rounding up to five!).
