I purchased this game about a month ago and I have been playing this game religiously. Referring to other reviews, I don’t see how anyone gets “lost” in this game if they’re actually paying attention to what’s going on in the game. On the contrary, if you look on the map, there’s a little exclamation point that shows you where you’re supposed to go.

I haven’t completed this game 100% but I’m almost there. Overall, I think I’ve seen enough to easily earn this game 5 stars. I would absolutely recommend this game to any of my friends.

This is a rare game style, because not only are you the bad guy, but you are a seriously bad dude, and not in the same moronic way as you would in the Grand Theft Auto series. What I mean is that you play a Sauron-esque Lich-like creature with great magical powers of mental domination and typical demonic power. You are placed in a Tolkien-esque world that literally does not leave a single cliche out to make fun of. This game is by far the best game I have played and I own 45 games at the moment. I am not even a strategy style gamer. This is a light-hearted game with its humor but it is very sadistic as well. Probably not the greatest game for kids due to the crude adult humor and the whole murdering entire villages and ensclaving the human race, but there is not blood and it is light-hearted in that you are the most powerful being in the world yet you command a horde (up to 50!!) of what could only be called Goblins from J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy series The Lord of the Rings.

This game seeks to make fun of every cliche while itself plays out those cliches at the same time. It is just hilarious and sick, yet not too sadistic. You command up to 50 golblins who have the ability to either be a great fighter, great swimmer, shoot fireballs/immune to fire, or stealth/immune to poison. All of them are fighters, but the great fighters are by far the toughest. All others will drown except the swimmers, yet all will be burned except the fire goblins and all will be poisoned except the stealth/poison goblins. So you see, there is a lot of strategy involved. Each type of goblin is earned in a sequence and allow for progression. For instance, certain areas will have water so you cannot get by unless you have the blue goblins who can swim, etc etc.

A wonderful game and the secon din the series. This game is much more compatible than the first one which catered to Nvidia GPU’s. All overlord games are intensive on CPU’s due to the intense processes involved, so make sure your PC is strong enough.

Highly recommend you play Overload 1 first. Overload 2 is even better than the first game, which was really good. Game has plenty of levels and game play, fun puzzles, and full of humor. Not for young children. It is the one game that I won’t let my boyfriend play without me in the room to watch.

Great Game, lots of mischief. Countless hours of play even after defeating the final boss you can go back play again. Definetly worth the money.

This year has been full of sequels and many of them have been downright awful, but rest assured if your a Fan of Overlord, Overlord II is worth every penny!

The controls are very familiar with a few enhancements. The same raunchy fun humor that was in Overlord returns along with the 4 minion types and the ability to forge, decorate your private chambers and the portal system that lets you get around from place to place nicely.

Some new features include the ability to resurrect minions who have names at the expense of Life Force. For instance you might have a level 4 minion that you could resurrect for 8 life force. It’s a nice touch that prevents you from having to find upgraded weapons and armor for the minions. Mounts, which adds a new level of ability to the minions including jumping onto areas that are otherwise inaccessible even to minions. Minion Control, In various dungeons, you’ll run across an item that can be used to swap your body with a minion. A very nice touch that actually lets you run into those nooks and corners that the overlord otherwise couldn’t visit.

Additionally, there are two methods of game play. Domination and Destruction. Since all overlords are evil by nature, the developers took the Good vs evil theme and applied it as evil vs really evil. Various quests and your decisions to enslave vs kill peasants will determine which path you’ve chosen.

While Overlord had a solid story, so far Overlord II feels to me to be a stronger more engrossing story than it’s predecessor. I particularly like the touch of starting out as a kid who’s getting pelted by snowballs. :)

While I have seen some reviews that complain of only having one button to attack, I think it important to point out that this isn’t Halo or GTA. This game builds upon it’s own design. The idea is that you’re strong and controlling of minions who can do lowly tasks for you such as slaughter peasants and clubbing seals. With that being said, the controls are surprisingly more advanced than they might appear at first and the Demo doesn’t teach you these like the game does.

All in all if your a fan of the first one, this is a must buy. If you’ve never tried Overlord then I highly recommend downloading the demo of Overlord II. The content within the demo is a portion of the tutorial and allows you to get your feet wet with the controls and game humor. If you find yourself liking the demo even a little, the full version is something you’ll most likely like.

Overlord 2 is very much like the original Overlord, which is great news to lovers of that fantastic games! The wry humor, the teeming minions, and the delightful town-taking-over adventures abound.

You start out in this game as a child overlord, dealing with other children. The minions latch on to you immediately and soon you are knocking over snowmen. You learn some basic skills and in short order you are an adult with far greater aims.

You have two types of activities in your quest for domination – destroying the towns you come across, or subjugating them under your dominion. If you take over the towns you get income from them, so this seems the far better choice.

You gather up four types of minions as you go, the same as in the previous version. Each minion has a certain type of skill. Even better, minions now have mounts, so your red guys ride salamanders, brown guys ride wolves, and green guys ride spiders. It makes for great fun.

Spells can be upgraded, weapons can be forged, by finding the unique dark crystals. Unlike the ever-present magic crystals, you have to track down the dark ones. Most of the times you can replay maps to figure out where they are, but we found one case where it’s one-pass-or-you-lose-it.

If you become fond of a minion that you’re leveling up from 1 to 10 and that minion dies, you can now resurrect them. A great way to build up your minion army strength!

We loved Overlord 1, so we appreciated all of the humor here. Sometimes the comments are laugh out loud funny. You do have to have a wry sense of humor though – after all, you are taking on the floucy elves who protect the fuzzy seals, for example.

There are a few minor complaints. The level design is a bit unfulfilling. It takes you a long while to get all your minions, and there’s hardly any gameplay left after that to use them all. Even if you go slowly gathering loot you still have to replay levels to get enough cash for the upgrades you want.

Saving is good in general, but gate transport is annoying. They’ll say a town has “gate 1″, “gate 2″ and “gate 3″. They could have actually labeled the gates with what they were near so you didn’t have to guess.

There are a few bugs. Minions get stuck in spots. You send 10 minions at an activation point and it only registers 9 of them. You have a quest to get to 100 citizens and one of them is hiding inside a house, with no indication of where they are, so you have to randomly go searching house to house to find them.

The final boss also seems rather easy, not a fitting ending to a game we love.

Still, these are minor issues in a game that’s quite fun. We gladly replay this and enjoy every moment of it.

I am a big fan of this series. I may be only rated for teens but I really enjoy playing it and I am 28. All around good fun.

I thought wow, this is pretty cool, I was mesmerized by the cool graphics and gameplay. Have no idea if its better or worse than the first one, Ive only began the 2nd and frankly its pretty awesome. So much so that I decided to buy the first one to play next. I think we as gamers tend place our expectations too high when sometimes simple enjoyment should be the ultimate goal. There were just too many funny and cool cut scenes that I’ll remember. No give aways but you slowly get submerged in ice after winning a huge battle at the beginning. I laughed my backside off when my little minions were wiping the ice block I was stuck in. Watching a blurry view within ice only to become clear after two of my minions wiped it clean smiling their gruesome smiles back at me was pretty laughable moment.

Gnarl and the Overlord are back. Well, not quite back, but you’ll get to figure that all out.

Gameplay is very similar with some welcome tweaks:

    1. Your minions can now be upgraded at their hive which makes them tougher overall.

    2. Minions gain levels as the get more experience.

    3. Dead minions can be resurrected at the cost of ‘newby’ minions, but this gets expensive if you’re trying to revive a high-level one.

    4. Three (!) mistresses.

    5. Many more options for new weapons and armor, though the purely ‘custom’ option is gone. (This seemed to mostly confuse ppl in the first game, so not an issue for most people.)

    6. Still have an “evil” vs. “really evil” though one is considerably better long term than the other. (You can figure it out. People killed in this game stay dead.)

    7. Plenty of mini-games, most of which are quite fun.

    8. Brown/Red/Green minions gain mounts. I didn’t find the mounts that useful, but they’re ok.

Story, graphics and score are all as good as the original, though less interactions/comments from the mistresses than last game. Which is to say the writers have a wicked sense of humour and hopefully they keep it up!

Game is more graphically demanding though. With a full horde of minions plus dominated humans, game occasionally slowed down. (T8300 w/ nVidia 8600M GT in 1400×900). No notable bugs or crashes, which is rare nowadays for an unpatched game right out of the box. I personally didn’t have any issues with the controls, worked just like the first game.

Lots of fun. Highly recommended. Some of the best fun I’ve had out of a game since Overlord.

This game is great. The game play and graphics remind me of Fable 2. The humor is a lot like South Park. You club baby seals, fight rainbow hippy peta elves. Man its fun. I download the demo off live and was hooked. Im a really picky gamer and tend not to love most games but this game is one of my favs. I never played the first game so I can not comment on the differences between the two. It nice to play a game and laugh ,have a good time and not want to throw your controller at the T.V. or listen to a bunch of middle school kids wine. Love the game, I plan on buying the first one
