Great game, great graphics, very fun to play if you follow GoldenAxe over the years.

Fun, cheap, short. The controls leave a little to be desired. It doesn’t always recognize when you pull of counters and it looks and feels very klunky.

This game has received too many negative reviews than it should have. They are focused on things like graphics and storyline. I focus on game play. (The graphics did not seem bad to me at all by the way) The game play is excellent, it is easy to master and remember the buttons for combos and defense which for a gamer who plays multiple games at a time this is perfect. The defensive system is the best that I have seen with these types of games. It is easy to keep up a good offense while defending which is almost impossible in most games like this. There are no weird overly complex puzzles or mazes either which also makes this game great. There were only two things that disappointed me about it and they were the lack of a multiplayer mode and the lack of other characters, you can only be Tyris which I was hoping for the characters from the previous games. (Gilius makes an appearance but only in a cinematic)

I really don’t understand what people mean by bad graphics and gameplay, I thought the game was excellent. I can understand being upset about multiplayer, but Beast Rider isn’t a terrible game as most make it out to be. Most people that say the game is bad haven’t even finished it. The graphics are beautiful, in my personal opinion, if the game looks interesting, buy it. It’s not that expensive because of the critics reviews, which brought the popularity down greatly. So now, every person that is interested in the game decides not to get it because most Golden Axe fans insist that it’s a terrible game. Overall, I think it has a nice combat system, and the storyline is interesting. Don’t flame Beast Rider because of it’s reviews, try it and see for yourself.

This is a game for the fantasy fans and not hack and slash fans. I think a lot of people approach the game as a hack and slash game like Ninja Gaiden or Heavenly Sword. But, the main gameplay isn’t the hack and slash elements but riding giant beasts, killing little enemies or having beast battles.
The hack and slash aspect is terrible. There are colors of attacks and they have to be matched to button presses otherwise health goes down, you lose bonus points etc. There are no combos as such and the weapons don’t change much. However, the beasts come in 4-5 different varieties all with their own attacks. The beasts run out health and die and you end up hack and slash mode when you aren’t riding a beast. There aren’t as much beast spawn points so one has to take care of their beasts.
The levels are very linear but the backdrop and the set-pieces are pretty. There is no point exploring the levels and none of the set pieces are interactive – except for the usual assortments of health, magic, gold etc. So, everything moves quickly. But, there is no story to speak of – there is a good backdrop for a story but not a story.
What is incredible about this game is the beast riding and fighting. Somehow, it captures size – the beasts are king kong sized, dinosaur sized, elephant sized and it all feels so smooth. In Ninja Gaiden, there are regular size and then building size and no sense of size in between. In Heavely Sword, there is no blend of sizes, it’s always a series of little mini-games. In this game, you ride big beasts fight and then you hack and slash and it all feels natural – in the sense that you don’t feel like you entered into mode of a game fighting with a beast and another mode in hack and slash. It blends very well together. Anything you can do in 3rd person slash mode can be done riding a beast.
Overall, it’s a great ride into an interesting fantasy land – there is a great backdrop and beast riding is fun. There is no story but I suppose it probably would have turned out to be hamfisted lord of the rings style affair so your own imagination is probably to better to connect the dots between what shows up. The female protagonist isn’t sexed up – she’s kinda scary and even when she walks around in a bikini, it’s like she’s a female Conan. This is a great rental or a good buy at a low price.

This game isn’t all that bad considering the lack of attention its getting. Controlling some of the beasts can be trouble some with their slow turn speed , but thats something you have to work around. One part about the game I like is I wouldn’t consider it anywhere near easy some of the waves enemies you face you will find yourself having to make a few attempts before you get away with a sliver of life left. If you have a bad attention span and can’t focus to dodge or parry while attacking I wouldnt recommend this game you will get frustrated very fast. Some of your counter attacks have to be right on time or no go.

I’m really having a hard time understanding all the negative reviews on here. Golden Axe: Beast Rider rocks! Despite it’s fantastic “sword & sorcery” setting, this game is not in any way an RPG, but an old-school arcade-style brawler, in line with the old Golden Axe games. Basically, you control ubersexy warrior maiden Tyris as she cuts a bloody, firey path of vengance through the subhuman hordes of the evil villian Death Adder. Melee combat is easy to learn and is where the addictive quality of the game lies, and the graphics actually look pretty decent. There is a lot of “beast-riding” in the game as well, including the Abrax, a two-legged dinosaur thing that breaths fire, and the Lynth, which is a hybrid tiger/mountain goat that stomps your enemies into a bloody paste. The game is by no means perfect: it can get repetetive once in a while & is rather linear (just like the old Golden Axe games were), and the storyline is not the most intellectual thing in the world, but, um…it’s a video game! Turn off your brain for a bit and have some good old-fashioned arcade-style, sword-swinging, limb-severing, beast-riding fun. If this sounds in any way intreging to you, buy this game, or at least give it a rental. Don’t let the haters throw you off… this game is metal.

The game is a fun game, with an interesting story and it is fun if you have to kill time, and riding a beast does makes it interesting. The only issue it’s similarity with other games of it’s genre. For example I own Also Conan for PS3 and basically both games are almost identical in their attacks, ways you play it, etc. The differences are that in one the main character is male and for the moment I have seen a more diverse variety of bosses(monsters) than in Golden Axe and the attacks and defense easier, but I have advanced more levels in that particular game. In the other is female, uses beasts ( that what makes it fun and unique), and better graphics but I have just started been through just a few levels. So based on the above, both games are good games but I would buy either one or the other. I still think both games are fun. The seller sent me the game promptly and in excellent condition.

once again, the first person shooter crowd complains that this game sucks because its third person, you have no guns and it doesnt involve online co-op play. not every game needs to be the same old thing! i have left for dead, shadow run and halo 3 why would i want another shooter clone? ANYWAY, this is a sword and spell game which includes the ability to ride various monsters which also have powers and go to it. some attacks that you face can be dodged, some blocked, some both but you will be stunned if you do the wrong thing. you can also go on the offense and interupt the attack. there are also minigames and you can replay individual levels while gaining new (minor) looks and more powerful swords. on teh downside, your mounts will die very fast until you learn how to use them while moving. but other than that its fun.

I do not regret spending the money I did to buy this game. It looks fantastic plays just like the first golden axe. The only problem I had with this game was that the difficulty curve is a bit much for people not used to this game-play style. With that being said, I would recommend this product to anyone who asked.
